When a hem is straight-stitched, the stitching runs across the front of the fabric and stays there. A blind stitch does the same job from inside the fold, catching just enough of the face cloth to hold and no more.

It is one of the clearest markers of hand finishing, and one of the few you can look for yourself on any panel you already own.
