“Why do you can so much?” 🤔

It’s a question I get asked all the time.👀

The truth is, not everyone understands the desire to fill a pantry with wholesome, home-preserved food. This season is busy—canning, freezing, dehydrating, gardening, and trying to keep up with everyday life.

But to me, it’s worth every minute. 💕

There’s something deeply satisfying about knowing there will always be quality food on our shelves. Food I grew, preserved, and prepared with my own hands.

Take green beans, for example. One bushel yielded 28 quarts. There are 52 weeks in a year, so if my family wanted green beans just once a week, I’d need 52 jars to make it through the year.

But I don’t can just for my family.

I also can for my mom and stepdad, which means I need twice as much on the shelves before canning season is over. So as I start on my second bushel of green beans this morning, I can’t help but feel grateful that I’m able to be home and contribute to my family in this way.

Another question I hear often is, “Is it cheaper?” 💸

Honestly, not always. 🤷‍♀️

Sometimes it costs more than buying it at the store. But I don’t do it simply to save money. I do it because I know exactly what’s in every jar. I know there are no fillers, preservatives, or ingredients I can’t pronounce.

For me, it’s about more than food.

It’s about peace of mind, self-sufficiency, and knowing exactly what’s being served at my family’s table.

P.S. and what better way to teach your littles about the importance of good quality food and having fun while processing it together as a family!

Ok friends help a sister out!

It’s canning season and I’m gonna do the most I can outside. How do I avoid the mess on my canner from the propane stove?? I love canning outside but the pot is always horrible to clean up! 🫣
