Back in July I watched Lara Spencer on Live with Kelly and Mark and she had great advice. Lara is the host of Flea Market Flip. Her top five thrifting tips were…1) Art is your best friend 2) Layers are life 3) Books, books, books 4) Mix don’t match & 5) Trust the weird piece. These are also great decorating tips too! You’ll see some of the items I’ve thrifted and how I’ve used them in my home. Thrifted items include; watercolor painting, Impasto oil paintings in gilded frames, cookbooks and miscellaneous hardback vintage books, blue & white teapot & pottery vase, white ironstone plate, Lady Clare Ltd. tray, Bordalo Pinheiro plate and the Swan Lake music box. When I bought the swan music box, I hesitated and almost put it back. It wasn’t really my vibe, but if you know me you know I love white dinnerware and ceramics so it had to come home with me. It sold immediately in my booth at Front Porch. I hope these tips will help you as you shop and make your house a home!

Plate walls date back centuries and were often a sign of wealthy families displaying hand painted porcelain and china collections. They’re popular today and a great way to add inexpensive decor to your home. I’ve collected plates for a very long time and always had a plate rack that I’ve displayed seasonal plates along with sentimental family pieces. Tonight I conquered a wall that needed a little color. I’m happy with my “above the sink” plate wall which includes transfer-ware (blue and green plates), lusterware (plate with birds on branch), Bordallo (leaf plate), and Blue Onion (center platter). I’ve purchased plates @ thrift stores & antique malls paying between 49 cents - $12 this summer with the intention of creating a plate wall somewhere in the kitchen. If you’re wanting to create a plate wall, Front Porch is a wonderful location to find plates with more than 70 vendors.

It’s amazing how much stuff I bring weekly and it magically fits! Come see what’s new at Ivey’s Vintage & Curated Gifts. I’ve added new pieces to the $1 basket, new dinnerware and other pieces for entertaining during the holidays, and so much more! Front Porch is open today until 5 pm and tomorrow from 10-5.
