A great day to learn how to work with green fiber stalks and hand process into cordage. molly koehn (kayn) walked us through steps of identifying bast fiber plants, stripping the fiber and then twisting into a 2 ply yarn. Next steps is to make enough for a bag. Houston Center for Contemporary Craft is an amazing place, if you’ve not been, I highly recommend a stop by to view the dye and fiber garden, and see all the talented resident artists.

600 pounds of organic Texas cotton came home with me this week. I had the mill process the organic cotton in both sliver and yarn. The natural-colored organic cotton is over an inch long; for organic cotton this is pretty long. The sliver is carder very similar to Easy-spin and the yarn will be a 5/2 light-weight fi*****ng. Some is already spoken for, the rest I'll be adding to the sites soon.
