I'm gonna turn you guys on to something that most people are unaware of. Due to the extreme drought, city water supply systems cannot handle all of the demand for irrigation systems running between 3 AM. And 9AM. If your irrigation is set to run during these times you more than likely do not have enough pressure for your system to work properly.. My advice is to run the system manually in the evenings when you can watch it.. Normally you would not wanna do that because of the threat of fungus, but this time of year, fungus is not an issue. So it is safe to water in the evenings. I've had over three hundred calls this week for this exact problem. When I show up all I can do is point out that the irrigation system is covering all the brown areas. I tell them not to run the system between three am and 9 am.

Thursday was another dry day for Horry County and that's something local landscaping business owners said they have had enough of. It's been very dry for the last two months in areas around South Carolina. In fact, many areas have barely received half their normal amount of rain. Skyler Hribar is th...

Here's some FAQ's we commonly get this time of year about irrigation systems.
Q) When should I start watering
A) When the night time temps remain ABOVE 65 degrees. (Exception - sooner only if you have new plants or annuals)
Q) How often/when should I water?
A) No more than 3x weekly. 4 to 5am is the best time. Do not water in the evening - this can cause fungus and insect issues.
Q) Why does my system run again and again?
A) Check your program start times. You should only have one. If you have more than one program start time, your system will repeat the program for as many times as you have entered a start time. This is a very common mistake that we see numerous times.
Q) How long should I set each zone?
A) There are many factors to consider, such as sun/shade, slope, turf type, plant types, soil types, etc. As a general rule, you have 3 types of zones. Drip zones should be set for 20 to 30 min. Zones with non-rotating pop up heads should be set for 10 minutes. Zones with rotating pop up heads should be set for 20 to 25 min. Again, these are typical averages, and other factors May determine the length of time required.
Q) Why does water continue to come out of my heads after my system has been turned off?
A) It is normal for the lowest elevation heads to drain the water from the system after it has been turned off. This should last no longer than 5 to 10 minutes. If water is continuing to come out of the heads after this time, you may have a valve that's not closing all the way.
Q) Can I control my irrigation from my phone/device?
A) Yes! We can upgrade your system to a professional wi-fi system, usually in under 30 minutes. Beware of the cheap Wi-Fi systems you find on the internet, as most do not include a user interface. This means I have to take your phone when servicing your system. This does not make me or you comfortable. The systems I install can be accessed via a user interface or your device. It is also compatible with Alexa, Google, and most other home automation systems.
Q) How do I know if my grass is getting enough water?
A) Use the 30-second test. When you walk across your lawn your footprint should be gone within 20 to 30 seconds. If you can still see your footprints after 30 seconds, your lawn needs water.
