Saturday is more than just another workday at Nicks Custom Designs it’s the day I hit reset on the woodshop, organizing and cleaning so every table is crafted to perfection and built to last a lifetime.

If you’re a busy custom homeowner or an interior designer, you know how fast tools and materials can pile up and slow you down. Here’s my approach to keeping the shop (and my mind) clear:

🔩 Assign every tool its own spot, so you never lose track of the essentials.
🔋 Keep power tools like drills and drivers together, and always rotate batteries onto the charger so you’re never caught with a dead one.
🧹 Dust and debris are banished with the help of an air compressor safer, cleaner, and better for your projects.
📦 I sort materials for each project into labeled bins or install shelves to keep everything separate and easy to find.
🗂️ Small parts and accessories live in drawer organizers, making it simple to grab what I need without digging through chaos.

A spotless, organized shop isn’t just about looks it’s the foundation for craftsmanship and durability in every table I build. When everything is in its right place, I can focus on delivering custom designs you’ll cherish for decades.

This is about to become something beautiful.

Look at that grain.
This wood just arrived at the shop, and I already know these cutting boards are going to be special.
When I'm selecting wood for cutting boards, I'm looking for more than just quality . I'm looking for CHARACTER. Grain patterns that tell a story. Natural variations that make each board one-of-a-kind.

This wood is perfect for what's coming:
→ Dense enough to be gentle on knife edges
→ Naturally antimicrobial properties
→ Grain pattern that's absolutely stunning
→ Will age beautifully with proper care
Can't wait to mill these down and see what's hiding inside.
Some of these will become chef-grade cutting boards. Others will be serving boards for charcuterie and entertaining. Each one completely unique.
If you've been thinking about upgrading from that plastic cutting board, this is your sign. Custom boards dropping soon.

Two weeks of work. One centerpiece that changes everything.

This kitchen island started as an idea and raw lumber. Now it's installed and ready to become the heart of this home.
What went into this:
→ Custom dimensions to fit their space perfectly
→ Solid wood construction (zero shortcuts)
→ Hand-selected boards for grain consistency
→ Professional finishing that can handle spills, heat, and daily use
→ Full installation included
This is what I mean when I say "turnkey."
From design consultation to final installation, I handled everything. The clients didn't lift a finger – they just watched their kitchen transform.
Now they have a workspace that's built to last decades. Where meal prep happens. Where kids do homework. Where friends gather during parties.
Not just an island. The island.
Currently booking projects for december. If you've been thinking about upgrading your kitchen with custom work, let's talk.
Every project gets this same level of attention – from first cut to final install.

What the client bought: Standard chairs from a furniture store. Decent, but generic.
What they're getting: Custom-finished pieces that look like they cost 3x more.
I'm working on these right now, and the transformation is already happening.
Most people look at mass-produced furniture and accept it as-is. I look at it and see all the ways it could be BETTER:
🔧 Structure that could be stronger
🎨 Finish that could match their existing pieces
✨ Details that could make it feel premium
💪 Weak points that need reinforcement
This is the difference between settling and creating exactly what you want.
By the time I'm done:
→ These will match their custom table perfectly
→ They'll be stronger than when they were new
→ They'll have details that make people think "custom-made"
→ They'll last decades, not years
The reveal is coming soon. Trust me, you'll want to see this.
Hit follow so you don't miss it

What would YOU upgrade if you could? 💭

Every board was chosen for its grain pattern
Every joint was reinforced for maximum strength
Every surface was finished to perfection
No particle board. No shortcuts. No excuses.
Just solid craftsmanship that speaks for itself

Currently have 3 slots open for custom projects. If you've been thinking about that dream table for your home, now's the time.

This might look like just another pass through the table saw, but it's one of my favorite steps in the process.
I'm creating a perfectly clean glue surface – removing any oxidation, dust, or imperfections that settled since I first milled this board.
Think of it like this: You wouldn't paint over a dirty wall and expect it to last, right? Same principle here.
A fresh-cut glue line means maximum fiber-to-fiber contact. Means glue can pe*****te properly. Means joints that hold strong for generations.
It's a small gesture that shows I care about the longevity of every piece.
Some days I'm working on three projects at once – an oak table refinish, a custom walnut dining table, and a set of cutting boards. Each one gets this same attention.
Because rushing this step saves me 5 minutes today but could cost someone a beautiful table 10 years from now.
Not worth it.

This is what I mean when I say "built to last generations."
See these wood biscuits? Most people will never know they're in there.
But every single panel in this table has them. And here's why that matters:
When glue hits these compressed wood pieces, they expand. They lock into those slots I just cut and create a bond that's incredibly strong – way beyond what glue alone could do.
It's not the fastest way. It's not the easiest way.
But it's MY way.
Because when someone trusts me with their furniture, I'm not just building a table. I'm building something their grandkids will fight over someday.
Every hidden detail counts. Every joint matters. Every step gets my full attention.
That's the standard I hold myself to.
What's a quality detail you insist on in your work, even when it takes extra time?
