Your resident drama queen reporting in—three weeks post-surgery!
I’ve spent these three weeks trying to heal from a completely unexpected, middle-of-the-night emergency. One moment I went to bed happy and feeling great, and by 1:30am I was doubled over in pain, being rushed to the ER for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. So much changed in just 12 hours.
Week one was a blur of sleep and pain meds.
Week two was tears—every other hour—trying to wrap my head around what had happened, holding my kids every chance I got, feeling every layer of emotion hit me all at once. My body is still trying to balance pregnancy hormones with no baby. It’s an ache that’s hard to explain.
Week three, I made it back to work for a few classes, and it felt so good to feel a bit like myself again.
One of my sweetest friends mailed me an adult coloring book and markers to keep my mind occupied—and honestly, it helped more than I expected. It gave me a little creative spark, a reason to sit, breathe, and let my mind wander. And that tiny spark is what inspired me to hand-paint Zoya’s birthday cookies. That moment brought tears too… the soft, grateful kind.
Yesterday, I was mentally ready to hit the pavement—and to my surprise, so were my legs. I ran 7.5 miles, averaging a 9:30 pace. That finish hit me straight in the heart.
I am so deeply grateful—grateful for the chance to be my kids’ mom, grateful for the incredible team at Edward Hospital who saved my life, grateful for my beautiful family and friends who checked on me nonstop these past three weeks, and grateful for the amazing Fry YMCA crew and members who lifted me up without even knowing how much I needed it.
If there’s a life lesson in all of this, it’s that I have a purpose—and it’s my children.
And today, despite everything, my heart feels full.

Friends!
This morning we set up a cookie table at Fry Elementary to raise funds for the IPEF race on October 19th—thanks to your support, one runner is already fully funded, and we’re working hard to fund one more!
We’ll be back this Friday, 8:30–9:00am at Fry with our fun Labubu monster cookies for just $3 each. Every cookie you buy helps me get closer to my fundraising goal for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and supports our community through IPEF.
Your sweet tooth can make a big difference—thank you for helping me cross the finish line! 🏃🏻‍♀️🍪💙

Hey my amazing friends!
As many of you know, running is my passion — it heals my soul, fuels my energy to keep up with my kids, and inspires me to dream up all those delicious cookies I bake for you!

But for me, running isn’t just about endorphins — it’s about making a difference. As I train for my second Bank of America Chicago Marathon, I’m proud to be raising funds to support our Fry Family YMCA, a place that builds community, strengthens families, and changes lives right here at home.

I’m currently $1,615 away from my fundraising goal, and every donation — big or small — helps bring us closer. Together, we can support programs that give kids a safe place to grow, families a place to connect, and our community a stronger foundation.

💝 And because I truly appreciate your kindness, I’m sharing something special with you — my magic sugar cookie recipe! Perfect for treats, gifts, and little bites of happiness for your soul. Consider it a sweet “thank you” from me to you.

Thank you for your generosity and encouragement — you keep me moving forward every step of the way!

🌎👑 The World’s Best Sugar Cookies

Yield: Enough cookies to make friends, bribe teachers, or keep your family quiet for at least 24 hours (36–48 depending on size and thickness).

Ingredients
2 cups (aka 4 sticks, aka a small cow’s worth) of butter – softened
2 cups sugar (because one cup was cute, but we’re here to win bake sales)
2 eggs (farm fresh or grocery cart fresh, we don’t judge)
3 tsp flavoring (vanilla, almond, lemon… or whatever makes your taste buds twerk; emulsions recommended because the flavor sticks around longer than your in-laws) i mix two flavors
5 ½ cups flour (+ extra for rolling and for that dust storm effect all over your kitchen counters)
1 tsp salt (unless you’re using salted butter, then skip it unless you like “salty attitude” cookies)

Directions:
Butter & Sugar Spa Treatment
Cream together the butter and sugar until it’s fluffy enough to be mistaken for clouds. Don’t rush it — this is the foundation of cookie greatness.

Egg-cellent Addition
Crack in those two eggs like the baking rockstar you are. Add the flavoring — vanilla, almond, or lemon — and pretend you’re on a cooking show with dramatic background music.

Flour Power
Add flour one cup at a time on low speed (your mixer isn’t training for a marathon, keep it chill). Over-mixing = tough cookies, and nobody likes a tough cookie (except Chuck Norris).

The Chill Pill
Flatten the dough into two bricks (not balls, we don’t need bowling alleys here), wrap in plastic wrap, and chill at least 2 hours. You can even forget it in the fridge for up to 3 days, no judgment.

Roll With It
Lightly flour your counter, rolling pin, and maybe yourself for full baker effect. Roll dough to ¼" thick, cut into shapes that scream “holiday cheer” or “Tuesday snack,” and pop them on baking sheets. Pro tip: throw the sheets back in the fridge for 10–20 minutes if you want Instagram-perfect shapes.

Bake to Perfection
Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake 9-11 minutes, until the edges barely blush golden. If they’re brown, you’ve gone too far — these are sugar cookies, not toast.

Cool, Baby, Cool
Let cookies cool completely before decorating. (Yes, completely. I know you’re tempted, but melted frosting is tragic.)

Why These Are the World’s Best:
1)They don’t spread like gossip at school pickup.
2)They taste like happiness and therapy rolled into one.
3)They’re sturdy enough for decorating but soft enough to make you close your eyes and hum when you bite.

Year 2 of Running Chicago

Good morning, friends!

I’m back. And this year is BIG.

Here’s the deal: I must run the Chicago Marathon this year to secure my guaranteed spot for 2026. I’ve completed the series, and the marathon is the final puzzle piece.
But—there’s a catch. I have to raise $2,300 for charity. So far, I’ve crushed a whopping $45 (yes, over 1% 🤣).

This is where YOU come in. I’m highly requesting (begging?) your support so that poor Mohammed Hussain doesn’t get stuck paying the full $2,300… because if that happens, I might be banned from running forever—or worse, my va**na may never get attention again. (Don’t test me. 😂)

Every little bit helps—whether it’s $5, $20, or sponsoring a mile. You’re not just donating to a cause—you’re keeping my running dreams (and dignity) alive.

✨ Donate here: https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/YMarathon25/ShirinNaderipour
And please send me your fundraising hacks, because clearly I need help. 💀

Let’s do this. Chicago 2025, I’m coming for you. 🏃‍♀️💨

Who’s the first love — buttercream or whipped heavy cream frosting?
Buttercream brings richness, stability, and consistency that holds its shape. Whipped heavy cream offers a lighter, airier, softer — yet less stable — texture.
For this adorable Stitch cake, she chose whipped heavy cream!
Stitch & butterflies are prnted on edible pper and baked with fondants.

Hello, 2025–26 school year! ✏️📚🎉
As I write this, my heart can’t believe summer is already over… but my physical and mental health are more than ready for the kids to go back to school! 😅💆‍♀️🍷

Also — Labubu is apparently the new Louis Vuitton for kids 👜👀. This creepy little creature has completely taken over the toy world, and I’m currently working on a Labubu-themed back-to-school cookie set 🍪👹🎒

Comment below if you're in the market for some fun (and slightly spooky) back-to-school cookies! 💬👇

And to quote the great Agnes Repplier:

"If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylums would be filled with mothers." 🤯😂

P.S. cookies decorated by the three artists!
