If there is one hill our studio will die on, it is lighting temperature.

Nothing ruins a great room faster than mixed lighting. When your table lamp is throwing soft amber and your ceiling cans are blasting clinical blue, your eye catches the chaos immediately. It makes gorgeous textures look flat and throws off every surface in the room.

Stick to one rule across the board: 2700K in every fixture, 3000K absolute max. Then put every single switch on a dimmer. A home should invite you to exhale at the end of the day, not feel like you are sitting under an interrogation lamp. Warm it up, dial it back, and let the room settle in with you.

Welcome to round one of Stuck! with Marie-Joe.

Have a room in your house that just isn’t working?

Maybe it just feels off. Maybe it feels unfinished. Maybe you know what you want it to feel like, but you can’t figure out how to get it there.

DM us a photo of the space and tell us what you’re struggling with.

Marie-Joe is going to choose three submissions and share how she’d approach each space, including what she’d keep, what she’d change, and where she’d start.

We’re starting with just three to see how it goes. If it’s helpful, we’ll keep going.

DM us your stuck space. We can’t wait to see what you’re working with.

Some design moments stand the test of time. Others define an era and move on.

We are tackling the Trendy vs. Timeless debate in our latest JFY Hot Takes. Drop your votes in the comments: which design choice on this list is your forever favorite, and which one are you ready to retire?

Three full days photographing our latest project, every single room, and it all comes down to this last frame. By the end of a shoot you’re tired in the best way. But there’s always one more shot everyone wants to get just right, and this time it was the kitchen.

Almost nobody sees this part, but it’s so important to us.

That’s a wrap on this TN home. Can’t wait to show you all the rest.

You made the first one go viral, so we put the whole team back on the line for the debates we actually have in the studio. Sectionals, fluted wood, subway tile, and whether resale value has any business touching a design decision.

A couple of these split the room clean down the middle. Watch where everyone lands, then settle it for us in the comments.

We do this every week. Follow so you’re here for round three.

Your turn: is an all-white kitchen a cop-out?

Put a room full of designers together and ask them to pick a side. No mood boards. No diplomatic answers. Just yes or no.

What questions should we ask next?

Artwork is often the last thing to go into a room and the first thing you notice. We love Abdoul Kader Boly for exactly this. He grew up herding in Burkina Faso, began painting as a boy with mud and clay, and still works with natural pigments from Africa. His work carries a whole life inside it, and you feel it the moment you see it.

When we choose art for a client, we begin with their story, not the wall. What they love, what they keep returning to. Often it means introducing someone to an artist they had never heard of, and years later they are still collecting. That is the part I love most.

Tell me about the one piece in your home you would never give up, and give Abdoul Kader Boly a follow.

How do you know when a room is finished?

Someone asked me this in my DMs, and it made me think about one of my favorite quotes.

Design Dilemmas is where I answer your DMs. Have a question? Send it over!

Rapid Fire with Marie-Joe: Summer Travel Edition. Turns out I’m great at keeping secrets ;). Drop your answer to the last one below. Where are you headed next?

There’s a moment in almost every project where someone asks for the ceiling to go higher. And I understand it. Height feels like luxury.
But it’s usually not what makes a room feel the way they actually want it to feel.
