Restoration of a fine Philadelphia bookcase built in 1837. This piece went through a fire some years ago and I have been slowly restoring it. The cornice was smashed, I had to replace lots of veneer, rebuild the base and replace glass but it is now fully restored.

One might ask why the drawers seem to be missing. Well, it wasn’t designed to contain drawers but I believe those spaces were meant to hold large books (called folios)stacked on their sides.
