Kaffie-Frederick General Mercantile Louisiana's Oldest General Store celebrating 163 years! Located in historic downtown Natchitoches, Kaffie-Frederick has operated continuously for 159 years.

Five generations of the two families have overseen daily operations since 1863. As Louisiana's oldest general store, we feature everything you remember from the "good old days" like hardware, housewares, cookware and kitchen supplies, classic toys, and gifts. Our original elevator still works, as do our early 1900's cash registers. Our specialties are good old fashioned service and quality merchandise. That formula has worked for 159 years, so we pledge to continue it.

A little piece of Natchitoches history stopped by Exchange Bank! ❤️

We enjoyed a visit from Luke Frederick of Kaffie-Frederick General Mercantile, who brought along some special memorabilia from Exchange Bank’s 50th and 75th anniversaries.

Kaffie-Frederick has been part of Natchitoches since 1863, making it the city’s oldest continuously operated business. And here’s a fun connection—their current historic Front Street building was built in 1892, the very same year Exchange Bank was established!

For generations, businesses like Kaffie-Frederick and Exchange Bank have been part of the story of Natchitoches—serving our community, preserving its history, and growing alongside the people who call it home.
