When someone asks me about my Sunrise Shell Jewelry, I explain it to them like this……
Yes,,Sunrise Shells are very hard to find! They are endemic to Hawaii and are the hardest shells to find. They found at at least 100 feet in the depths of the ocean and acquired you to Scuba for these beauties.
Hawaiian Sunrise shells are usually found in perfectly clean, pristine condition. Most of the time they will be covered with calcium deposits, a hard, white crusting that grows on the shell as it lies on the ocean floor. Kelsey deposits, must be removed by using a fine wire brush, and many many hours of scrubbing.
So you see between the time you scuba dive and searching for these beauties, retrieving them, and cleaning them, and then setting them in a beautifully set pendant or bracelet. There is much that goes into making a single piece of jewelry.
