A living room should feel easy the moment you walk into it.

When I design spaces like this Park Avenue modern farmhouse, the goal is always to make it feel open, comfortable, and natural to move through.

The layout allows for uninterrupted flow, and each piece of furniture is scaled to fit the room rather than fill it. Materials are kept consistent to maintain a calm, cohesive look, and I’m intentional about what gets included and what gets left out.

That balance is what keeps the room feeling functional without feeling busy.

This project came together with with furniture selections from , , and , and was captured by beautifully.

As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial summer kickoff, I’m here to remind you that the best outdoor spaces and decks feel like an extension of the home.

When I design outdoor spaces, I approach them the same way I do the interior. I look at how you move through the space, how the layout aligns with the rooms inside, and how materials transition so everything feels connected.

When those decisions are made early, the deck becomes a natural extension of the home, somewhere people love to gather.

Save this as you plan your outdoor space, and follow for more real-life design insights.

Not all windows function the same way, and the choice should reflect how the space is used.

Some are designed for airflow. Others prioritize ease of use. Some are meant to bring in light and frame a view.

When I’m selecting windows, I look at how they’ll perform in the space day to day. I often work with to source options that support both function and overall design.

Understanding these differences helps guide the right choice for the room.

Before designing a living room, it helps to step back and ask the right questions.

How the space is used daily should guide every decision. From seating to storage to lighting, it all comes back to function.

Natural light, movement, and how the room needs to feel at different times of day all play a role.

When these questions are answered early, the design process becomes much more intentional.

This bedroom in a Wellesley, MA home was reworked to feel calm, cohesive, and easy to live in.

A bedroom comes together when the right pieces are in place. It starts with the bed, making sure it’s properly scaled for the room and aligned with the space around it.

From there, I focus on how each element supports both function and comfort. Nightstands need to work for everyday use. Seating adds usability, and lighting brings balance and a more grounded feel to the space.

Even the accent chair and the curtains were selected to support that overall balance, so nothing feels out of place or overdone. The lighting from was positioned to bring a softer, more comfortable feel to the room.

When each piece has a purpose, the room feels complete without being overdone.

A bathtub should fit how you actually use it.

Some clients want a quick, functional setup. Others want a space to slow down and soak. The shape, depth, and support of the tub all influence that experience.

The choice between freestanding and built-in also affects the layout more than people expect. It changes how the room flows and how much usable space you have.

And beyond the tub itself, access and surrounding space matter for both comfort and maintenance. When I’m sourcing, I often look to because they offer pieces that work well both in design and everyday use.

Save this before selecting your bathtub.

Is your fireplace part of the design… or just there?

A fireplace brings more than just warmth to a room. It creates a sense of comfort and belonging, and it often becomes a natural focal point.

Because of that, I always treat it as a key part of the design. The scale, placement, and materials need to feel connected to the space so it supports the room and doesn’t distract from it.

When it’s done right, it doesn’t call attention to itself. It simply feels right.

This project was brought to life with and captured it perfectly.

I always tell my clients that tile decisions go beyond what looks good in a sample.

In a shower, I’m thinking about how it will actually perform every day. Safety, maintenance, and how the materials hold up over time all matter just as much as the design.

Tile size affects drainage. The finish changes how slippery the surface feels. Even grout color can impact how clean the space looks long term.

These are the details we walk through carefully, and I’m grateful to work with to source options that balance both function and design.

Save this before choosing your shower tile.

The vibe of a room should be defined before anything is selected.

Some spaces are layered, built through texture and contrast. Others feel more balanced, with clean lines and a quieter palette. And some are more expressive, with stronger variation and energy.

Once that direction is clear, every design decision becomes more intentional. From selecting fabrics and wallcoverings through to building out color palettes with , everything starts to align.

That clarity is what makes a space feel cohesive from the start.
