Part 3 of the multipurpose room — the part that probably makes the least sense on paper and the most sense to me.

There’s music, obviously. My son’s guitar lives here, along with a little collection of vintage glassware because apparently I can’t walk past a good piece of glass without bringing it home.

The artwork is mine. I painted it myself, which feels important because not everything in a home has to be something you found or bought.

And then there are the vintage games.

I have no reasonable explanation for my obsession with them. I just like the way they look, the memories they suggest, and the fact that they make a room feel like people actually live there.

The lighting is a mix, too — some West Elm, some Amazon. Because good rooms rarely come from one store.

Music. Art. Games. Glassware. A guitar leaning against the wall.

A room doesn’t need one purpose. It just needs to make sense for the people living in it.

Part 2 of our multipurpose room.

This time, I’m sharing the coffee table and the little artifacts that live on it, a very comfortable chair, and the record player—which looks vintage but actually isn’t.

I like a room that feels collected without everything having to be from the same era. Some things are old, some things just look old, and some things are simply there because we like them.

It’s those little pieces that make a room feel like it belongs to the people who live there.

I think sometimes we imagine facing our fears is going to look like some big, brave, life-changing moment.

But sometimes it’s much smaller than that.

Sometimes it’s doing the thing you’ve been afraid to do. Putting yourself out there. Letting yourself be seen. Being willing to look a little ridiculous. Saying yes when every part of you wants to stay safely on the sidelines.

Because fear has a way of making us believe that avoiding something is the same as protecting ourselves.

And maybe sometimes it is.

But sometimes we’re not protecting ourselves at all. We’re just keeping ourselves from experiencing something we might actually love.

I’m trying to remember that I don’t have to feel fearless to do something.

I just have to be willing to do it while I’m afraid.

And sometimes, that means getting on stage and singing with a live band. 🎤

Part 1 — Multipurpose Room Tour

This room probably gets used more than any other room in our house. It’s where we watch TV, listen to music, and where I sometimes sit with clients when I need a place to have a conversation.

I like rooms that can do more than one thing without looking like they’re trying to.

The two chairs, sofa, lamp, and credenza are all pieces that help make the room work for different parts of our life, and I’ll share more about each of them as we go through the room.

I’ve never been interested in having a room that only looks good. I want the rooms in my house to actually be lived in.

The funny thing about living in a house for a long time is that you stop seeing it the way a visitor does.

You stop noticing the little things, the piece of furniture you’ve had forever, the artwork you found somewhere unexpected, the corner that somehow became the place where everything gets dropped.

I’ve always believed a home should be collected rather than completed. Some things are vintage, some are new, some have a story, and some are simply there because I love them.

That’s what I’m interested in when I talk about interiors: not creating a perfect room, but figuring out what belongs in your life and letting your home become a reflection of it.

So this is Part 2 of my entryway, and probably the beginning of me finally letting you see more of the house I’ve been quietly working on for years.

There’s still plenty I’d change.

But there’s also a lot I love exactly as it is.
