Let's hear from DIG Architecture Summer Intern Michaela Pestano, who joined us as a Marketing Intern this past June! 👋 Michaela is currently studying Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has already built an impressive portfolio of leadership and creative experience.

She shared the following about her time with us this summer... 💭

"Since working at DIG, I've learned so much about architecture while seeing it from a different perspective. I was able to learn how to present projects and team members both visually and communicatively through graphics, storytelling, and branding. This experience has taught me how to be detail-oriented, while also having the ability to step back and see the overall picture.

Working with the marketing team has been such a fun, collaborative experience for me, and I'm really glad I had the opportunity to grow as a designer in a more visionary capacity. One of my favorite moments while working in marketing was getting to take photos of everyone at the July DIG-In when we were all in line for ice cream.

I look forward to using the skills and experiences I've gained at DIG as I work towards completing my B.Arch degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and my upcoming study abroad experience in Latin America. Going forward, I'm excited to explore everything that architecture and design have to offer!"

Thank you for all your hard work this summer, Michaela! It was a pleasure watching you grow with us! 🌱

That blueberry has to win one day, right... 🫐

It was a beautiful night at the ballpark for our Annual DIG Architecture Baseball Night! ⚾ Earlier this month the DIG home team gathered at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater to watch the other home team Somerset Patriots take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats!

There was plenty of fun, food, camaraderie, peanuts, cracker jacks and we didn't care if we ever got back. Until next year! 🧢

Today, let's hear from DIG Architecture Summer Intern Samita Pandit, who joined the firm back in June. A recent Interior Design graduate with a minor in Business from NJIT, Samita brought a strong interest in sustainable, user-centered design and a passion for creating spaces that enhance well-being, foster connection, and support the communities they serve. 💪

Reflecting on her experience with us this summer, Samita shared the following:

"One of my favorite memories from interning at DIG this summer was a site visit to a government building currently under construction. Getting to walk the site, look at the drawings, and see how those drawings were coming to life in real time was a completely different kind of learning than anything in the classroom.

I also loved the Summer Tech Series, where colleagues across the office walked us through the software and programs they use day to day, and the lunch and learns with different manufacturers presenting their newest materials and product lines. Between those sessions and hands-on work like client presentations, finish boards, and picking up redlines on construction drawings, I got a much clearer picture of how design intent turns into a built space, and how much planning, collaboration, and problem-solving happens along the way.

Looking ahead, I'm excited to keep building on everything I learned this summer as I take the next steps in my design career, including working toward my NCIDQ certification and continuing to grow as a designer through both practice and research."

Thanks for all your hard work, Samita! We know you have a bright future ahead of you! 👷‍♀️

And they're off! 🏇 To Professional Women in Construction - New Jersey's "Day at the Races" at Monmouth Park Racetrack!

Another of our favorite industry organizations, DIG Principal Swarupa Samant sits on the PWC NJ Board of Directors, where she can champion the role of women in New Jersey's AEC industries. 👷‍♀️

Formed in 2007 to address the unique needs of the New Jersey construction industry and provide local opportunities to the Professional Women who live and work in this great state, the Chapter provides valuable information and ideas to members through events, education, and mentorship.

The dog days of summer are officially here and with August coming to a close that means we have to say goodbye to our Summer Interns. 🌞 Thank you for all your hard work! We hope it was a valuable experience!

Before they left, we asked our Summer Interns to recap their experience at DIG Architecture this summer. Today let's hear from Architectural Intern Tyler Peterson, who is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Architecture degree at NJIT’s Albert Dorman Honors College. 🎓

"Some of my favorite memories at DIG this summer were getting to work with so many different people on various aspects of a project. Getting to see how much goes into larger projects and how many different disciplines and skills come together has been a great learning experience before finishing school.

These experiences have taught me great lessons about how to work in a team. These lessons include always checking your own work because it will affect others and always taking extra time to make clearer and more detailed notes to communicate better with your team both in and outside the firm.

Going forward, I plan to complete my B. Arch degree at NJIT, hoping to study abroad at some point. After graduation, I’d like to learn as much as I can about different types of design and pursue licensure to officially become an architect!"

Best of luck Tyler! It's not goodbye, it's see ya later! 👋
