OOPS!!! New to canning... my hubby got instructions for canning green beans from a family member. I bought the T-Fal 22qt pressure canner (has a setting dial with positions 1, 2, and 3, not a weight) & nowhere in the manual does it tell you what position 1 is psi wise. On page 5, it says Position 1 is for vegetables. So, according to the instructions hubby got, we canned on Setting 1 for 25 minutes for quarts.
47 quarts to be exact. We've been so excited and proud. We even had a jar for dinner last week and they were delicious!
Tonight we were looking up something else in the manual and on page 33-34, we see that it says to use Setting 2 for green beans 🤬... so now we're upset and feeling stupid. Turns out Setting 1 is 5psi and Setting 2 is 10psi. We've "Googled" all kinds of questions, whether they are safe to eat... can they be recanned somehow... can they be cooked in a huge batch and then canned again using another method... all answers are not what we were hoping for so I thought I'd reach out and ask seasoned canners for any advice whatsoever. I DO understand it was a big mistake on our part for not reading the rest of the manual but it's also confusing when it says "vegetables" in one statement only to find out they suggest another Setting for green beans in another.
Sorry for the long post... we're just very upset. Here we grew our first garden and thought we were doing things right only to have our bubble busted 😞
I'm sure almost all will say they should be trashed but I'm holding on to a thread of hope.
Thank you for your time if you've read this far.
