Here are three things about how I work as a designer.

I design around you, not around what's trending or what everyone else is doing. Your home should carry your personality, not mine. That means I am not afraid of color, pattern, or an unexpected material that gives a room its personality. And I mix, I layer, I experiment, because everything does not have to match to belong together. The goal is always a home that feels collected over time, not copied from a magazine.

This is the part of the process people rarely see, the fabric pulls, the color swatches, the piles of samples before a single piece of furniture is placed. But it is where every project really begins.

This room had good bones and a lot of untapped potential.

The built ins and fireplace were nonexistent. This client had a mantle they were dying to use so we created everything on that wall! Entertainment space, fireplace, storage, floating shelves...

Besides the new wall build, the layout of the room itself worked, the light was beautiful, but the space needed a plan. We brought in a layered rug, custom Roman shades, and furniture scaled to actually fit the room. Every fabric and finish was chosen with this specific family in mind, right down to the four legged fixture who approved every choice from the coffee table.

The result feels inviting, collected, and completely their own.

Would you use this design scheme in your home?

This mix leans whimsical and coastal, with cool blues and soft creams balanced by warm brass mermaid statues and rich textures throughout. There's a playfulness to it, but it stays grounded with pattern, layering, and pieces that feel collected rather than curated all at once.

One of my favorite things to do as an interior designer is mix warmth with cool tones. It creates a palette that feels fun and alive, but never chaotic.

The biggest mistake I see as an interior designer is when people design their space for how others perceive it rather than for what they love.

Thoughtful design isn't about impressing anyone who walks through your front door! It's about the people who actually live there.

Before I talk about paint colors or furniture with my clients, we talk about real life. Backpacks, keys, dogs, the way your family actually moves through a day. That’s where functional interior design starts, and it's the difference between a home that just looks good and one that actually works.

As a Metro Detroit interior designer, my goal is always to design the version of a space that feels as good as it looks, whether that's a busy family home in Northville or a historic renovation in Ann Arbor.
