At Donovan Ceramics, we are opening our studio this spring for private and semi-private experiences on wheel techniques and methods!

These classes are built specifically for those interested in expanding and developing skills and understanding of the ceramic process. We are excited to welcome a small group of students of any experience level to learn alongside John Donovan in an intimately scaled and personal setting.

John has twenty-five years of teaching experience in higher education and fifty years of experience with his hands in clay (he got started very, very early). John firmly believes that personal creative expression is at the core of the human experience, and holds an insatiable drive for sharing the joy of making well-crafted, thoughtful forms in clay and building community through education.

During these five week sessions, John will share techniques for pottery on the wheel and explore other facets of pottery/tableware production, including clay and glaze mixing and chemistry, glaze application and kiln loading and firing. The classes are small by design, capped at two people per class. It’s a great chance for a semi-private instruction experience, or for a dynamic learning experience with a friend or partner.

Critical evaluation of works made during the classes will be a capstone event for those who are interested in fostering an academic experience that can carry you forward into a strong practice on your own. Please consider joining us on the production side of things in our Oak Street studio for a unique, personalized learning experience from one of the best in the biz!
