I’ve been doing a lot off of custom orders over the past few months. So now, I get to experiment. This isn’t finished yet and it may all literally some out in the wash, but the idea is there. Lessons were learned so the next one will be better.

So, last week I was on my way to making a pretty color. Then I added black to tone it down a little. The black didn’t set immediately like I thought it should. I threw it into soap and water and walked away a for a few days.

I just came back and rinsed it…still UV reactive!

Day job has been stressful lately and it’s causing me to have no energy when I get home. It’s also made it hard to be creative the past few weeks. I also don’t like crating things for people if I’m in a bad mood. I’m not a superstitious person, but nobody needs that mojo unwittingly shared to them.

That said, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I was back in the dyeing room last night to make some custom toxic swamp. I also experimented with rocks. The rocks didn’t work the way I had hoped, but it was super fun to play with.

I’ve been busy! The red is a test dye straight off the goat from Weeping Woods Farm. If you buy the wool for spinning from YarNOLA ask Elli about a single color dye.

Took nearly completed photos of the black striped yarn from Wednesday. It’s not what I started out going for, but I love how it looks so Halloweeny. It’s also UV reactive.

Finally, I’ve started making row counters and stitch markers with my gothic flare. The row counters also make cute bracelets. 💜 🦇

Wednesday night craft chat project. First steps.

Last night on craft chat, I made a simple beanie using gorgeous black rainbow yarn from Louisiana Yarn Guys LLC that I bought at the trunk show.

Because I’m still new to dyeing, I wanted to see how the color placement works up. It looks awesome! I’m looking forward to using the rest of it that I have. They did a beautiful job with this yarn.

Questions I’ve had recently:

Does the Magnolia yarn felt because it has a small percentage of mohair?

Does the UV reactive esa fase after washing?

I did my best to do everything wrong. I washed this headband test inside a pillowcase with a pillow in hot water with two rinse cycles then ran it through the dryer for 2 hours. Below are the results.

Minimal felting and shrinkage occurred. It still reactive. 😊 the third photo is of an unwashed to compare to the washed.
