Sometimes the hardest part of decorating a bathroom isn't choosing what you love. It's figuring out how to bring everything together.

Your inspiration doesn't always have to come from a beautifully designed room on Pinterest. Sometimes it's a color combination, a pattern, or a texture you discover while shopping.

The key is finding one element that speaks to your style and allowing it to guide your design decisions.

Feeling stuck with a room doesn’t always mean you don’t know what you like.

Sometimes, you’re simply trying to make too many design decisions at once.

Instead of figuring out the entire room, find one place to begin. One color. One pattern. One texture. One piece that gives you direction.

Then build from there.

This week, we’re going room by room, and I’m sharing where I would start when you have no idea where to start.

First stop: the bathroom. And we’re starting somewhere you might not expect.

You might be a Mediumist if… 👀

You want your home styled, but you still need room to breathe.
You're not necessarily drawn to the simplicity of minimalism, but you don't want all the layers of maximalism either.

You like color, texture, pattern and décor in doses that feel balanced.

You want the pillows, the artwork and the styled coffee table, but you also appreciate an empty surface, negative space and knowing when the room has enough.

That's where I fall.
Styled, but not full.
Edited, but not empty.
And since I couldn't find an official name for that middle ground, for this series I've been calling us Mediumists.

Now that we've explored all three, I want to know where you fall:
Minimalist, Maximalist or Mediumist?

You might be a maximalist if… 👀

More doesn't automatically feel like too much to you.

Maximalism isn't about filling a room just for the sake of filling it. It's about creating a space that feels layered, expressive and personal.
Color can live with pattern.
Old can live with new.

Art, texture and collected pieces can all have a place.
The key is making those layers feel connected rather than chaotic.

So if a room with plenty for your eye to explore makes you feel inspired rather than overwhelmed, maximalism might be your design language.

But what if minimalism feels like not enough…and maximalism feels like a little too much?

I think I know where you belong.

Less in a room actually makes you feel more at home.

Minimalism isn't about creating an empty or boring space. It's about being selective giving the pieces you love room to breathe and allowing the eye somewhere to rest.

The question isn't necessarily, “How little can I have?”

It's “What deserves a place in my space?”
And if clean lines, open space and a more edited approach to decorating make you feel at ease, minimalism might be your design language.

But if you're thinking, “I need a little more color, pattern and personality than this…”

Some of us feel most at home with clean lines, open space and very little décor. Others come alive around color, pattern, layers and collections.

And then there are those of us somewhere in the middle. 🙋🏾‍♀️

This week, we're talking about minimalism, maximalism, and everything in between so you can start identifying what actually feels like you.
Because your home doesn't have to fit perfectly into a design category to be beautifully designed.
