Hearing a few mysterious creaks around the house? 👻

Before you blame the ghosts, it might just be your floors.

Older hardwood floors can squeak and show their age over time, but that doesn’t always mean they need to be replaced. Sometimes refinishing may be an option.

If your floors are making a little too much noise—or just looking a little scary—give us a call. We’ll help you figure out what they need.

We love hearing from happy customers! 💚

One of our recent clients shared these photos from their project along with some especially kind words for Barbara and Javier’s Krewe:

“I was so impressed with Mrs. Barbara's professionalism and her expertise and years of experience that I followed her to her new location. She was so easy to work with and understood what our needs and desires were. The installer team (Javier's Krewe) were also very professional, respectful as well as proficient in their skill.”

That’s exactly the kind of experience we want our customers to have—from helping you find the right flooring to the final installation.

Thank you for trusting Floor de Lis Flooring with your home and for sharing these photos with us!

A lasting floor installation starts before the first plank goes down.

Before installation begins, we check five important things: subfloor moisture, flatness, structural soundness, material acclimation, and overall site conditions.

💧 In South Louisiana, moisture deserves extra attention. Heat, humidity, air conditioning, and raised-home construction can create very different conditions above and below a floor. When moisture levels are not properly evaluated, problems may appear later as cupping, gaps, or movement at the seams.

A few minutes of preparation can help prevent much bigger problems down the road.

Before your new flooring installation, ask one simple question: Did you check the subfloor?

Not every worn hardwood floor needs to be replaced.

Scratches, fading, a dull finish, and years of everyday wear can make a floor look worse than it really is. If the boards are still sound and there’s enough wood left to sand safely, refinishing may be all the floor needs.

Replacing the flooring may make more sense when the damage goes deeper—significant water damage, unstable boards, too many previous sandings, or problems underneath the flooring.

The key takeaway: A floor that looks worn doesn’t automatically need to be replaced.

Swipe through to see what we consider when choosing between refinishing and replacement.

MYTH: Waterproof flooring means you don’t have to worry about water.

Not quite.

Waterproof flooring is designed to handle moisture better than many other options, but the flooring itself is only part of the system. If water from a dishwasher leak, overflowing appliance, or unnoticed spill seeps underneath, it can still reach the subfloor and cause damage.

That’s why “waterproof” should never mean “ignore the water.” Clean up spills promptly, watch for leaks, and choose flooring that fits the room and the way your household lives.

Not sure what “waterproof” really means for the floor you’re considering? 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝘀. We’ll give you a clear, straightforward answer.

Patterned tile is one of the hardest flooring decisions to undo. Here are a few things worth knowing before you commit:

✅ Pattern reads completely differently at scale. A tile that looks subtle in a 12-inch sample can take over a room. Ask for a large sample or a full layout photo — that gap is where most regret starts.

✅ Color matters more than pattern density. This floor is busy and still neutral, which is why the room can carry mustard chairs and reclaimed wood without tipping over. Bring color into the tile and everything else has to agree with it.

✅ Grout is the decision people make last and notice every day after. Match it to the lighter tone unless you want a grid sitting on top of the pattern.
