Some projects challenge you to think bigger.

For this throwback, we’re revisiting one of the more demanding installations our Wilderness by Klaus team has taken on: bringing a full-size replica pine tree indoors, then building an entire wildlife scene around it, complete with bear cubs climbing through the branches.

The finished tree looks like it belongs there, but getting to that point required careful fabrication, planning, rigging, positioning, and plenty of hands-on installation work.

Our replica pine trees have since been used in a variety of projects for both private and public clients, helping create immersive environments without the structural, sourcing, and longevity challenges that come with using a real tree of this scale.

Being able to accurately recreate different tree species, bark textures, branching patterns, and natural forms gives us another tool for turning an empty room into a convincing habitat.

From rockwork and trees to complete wildlife environments, our team is built for ambitious projects.

How do you display a massive collection of shoulder mounts without making the space feel crowded?

For this educational center project, the answer was to think vertically.

Our Wilderness by Klaus team used the circular upper-level gallery to surround the central whitetail display below with an impressive collection of additional specimens.

That allowed us to make use of the architecture itself, giving the mounts room to breathe while creating layers of wildlife throughout the space.

From below, the whitetail display remains the focal point. Look upward, and the collection continues around you.

That is the kind of challenge our designers, artists, and fabricators love solving: taking a large collection and finding a way to make every specimen feel intentional, connected, and part of the overall story.

What do you do with an entryway surrounded by an extraordinary collection of wildlife? You turn it into an experience.

This drone view takes you through the entryway of the Golahbci Education Center in Georgia, where an extensive collection of shoulder mounts surrounds a central whitetail display inspired by the American heartland in autumn.

The deer are only part of the finished environment.

For this project, the Wilderness by Klaus team transformed the client's space and collection into a complete environment. Custom habitat elements, lighting, scenic rockwork, vegetation, mural art, specimen placement, and architectural details all work together to give the collection context and help guide you through the story.

It looks like a scene pulled straight from the heartland.

For this whitetail display, the goal was to create more than a place to showcase the deer. We wanted the entire environment to help tell the story.

Replica trees, carefully built habitat elements, natural transitions, fencing, and even an old John Deere tractor come together to create a setting that feels like a piece of rural America brought indoors.

Details like these give each mount context. Instead of seeing individual specimens against a wall, you begin to see a complete environment where every element contributes to the experience.

Creating an immersive wildlife display takes more than placing mounts in front of a backdrop.

Sculpted terrain, artificial ice and rockwork, mural art, lighting, habitat elements, and thoughtful specimen placement all work together to create depth and make the environment feel believable.

The closer you look, the more important the details become.

Walk into a room built around a lifetime of African wildlife.

In this drone POV, you are guided into one of our large private trophy room projects, where mounts from across the African continent come together in one immersive environment.

The focal point is impossible to miss: a massive elephant.

What you see today did not arrive as a full-body mount. The elephant came to Wilderness by Klaus as a shoulder mount, and our team reconstructed the body and carefully integrated the original head into the finished display.

That was only one part of the challenge.

With this many large specimens sharing the same room, thoughtful use of space became critical. Habitat elements, custom supports, mural art, sightlines, and transitions all had to work together so the collection felt natural instead of crowded.

The goal was to give every specimen enough room to tell its own story while still making the entire room feel like one complete environment.

This is only one room of a much larger private collection, but the challenge inside it was enormous.

The owner had spent a lifetime collecting remarkable specimens from around the world. Our job was to bring so many individual animals together in a way that still felt natural, intentional, and immersive.

That meant thinking far beyond simply placing mounts.

Our Wilderness by Klaus team integrated habitat elements, custom support structures, scenic fabrication, and mural work to help each specimen feel connected to the environment around it. Just as importantly, we worked to give every animal enough visual space to tell its own part of the story.

When a collection reaches this scale, the details matter. Sightlines, transitions, elevations, backgrounds, and habitat all have to work together so the room feels like one complete experience rather than a collection of unrelated displays.

How do you make several different wildlife habitats feel like they all belong in the same room?

For this Throwback Thursday, we dug into the Wilderness by Klaus video archives to revisit one of our favorite, and most challenging, private trophy room projects.

No two trophy rooms are ever the same. Our design and artist teams look at the specimens, the architecture of the space, the stories behind the collection, and how each habitat needs to connect with the next.

The goal is not simply to build individual displays. It is to create an environment where the rockwork, vegetation, scenery, lighting, and mount placement work together, and where the transitions from one habitat to another feel natural rather than forced.

Projects like this are where design, craftsmanship, problem-solving, and wildlife knowledge all have to come together.
