More Styling Tips …. Take a peek at how each of these tables has been styled. Notice anything that’s common amongst them? Yes, a theme! When styling a large round table using a common theme for objects is a winning move! It concentrates the topic, focuses the attention and glorifies the beauty of the furniture. And it’s a great conversation starter. How many rooms have you ever entered that had this kind of decorative focus? Probably not very many. It’s an art form. Give it a try!

Styling continued …. I can’t say enough about using what you already have in the house to add so much more pizazz to a room.

In this vignette, a collection of pale green glass candleholders, arranged on a tray to focus the eye, is accompanied by the addition of a simple flower arrangement and a book in complimentary colors.

The decor pulls the colors from the piece of art to allow the eye to see a beautiful vignette styled perfectly.

Styling versus Designing - yes there is a difference and sometimes simply Styling a room will make all the difference for far less money spent. Let me explain - design happens when a room is “redone” with new paint, wallpaper, flooring or furniture. That’s always expensive.

Styling happens when you “play” with decorative objects like knick knacks, books, art, pillows and textiles. It’s much less expensive because you probably already have almost everything you will need! You just need to move it around. And it’s much easier to change when you get bored.

Simple Changes can be very eye catching and make all the difference when staging a piece of furniture. For example, look at the difference in these two photos; the objective of the buffet stying is as a bar - offering spirits, cocktail recipes and fine crystal containers. The crystal is very special to me because each piece was a gift from my Mother.

The photo on the top (before) has the bottles staged on a marble turntable and a large round mercury vase on the right side. The crystal is getting lost in this arrangement and the lovely colors of the bottles are too “jammed” together to show “well”. Also notice the clear base on tbe lamp adding to the lack of color and harmony along eith too many “round” items

The photo on the bottom (after) shows the turntable replaced with a rectangular silver tray and the round vase replaced with books on wine and a brass planter. The brass based lamp adds color and depth and by coordinating both ends of the buffet staging in brass it ties it all together

Do you see why photo #2 is a better display? The colors of the bottles are clear and brighter, the crystal is showcased and the books balance out the display.

When you are staging a piece be sure to try different combinations and configurations. Once it is “right” you’ll know it!! ❣️❣️❣️

Simple Elegance

Sometimes in decorating our homes we tend to overdo it, to put too many pieces in one area and we don’t consider how elegant simplicity can be.

This vignette is a fabulous example of Simple Elegance. A soft floral arrangement paired with delicate candlesticks and a coffee table book - all bearing hues of soft greens. Using the mirrored tray to reflect the candlesticks adds another dimension to the experience. Imagine this view in the evening with the fireplace reflecting off the mirrored tray & candlesticks. Stunning!!!

Symmetry and Balance are very important to good design, but it’s not always easy to achieve. Don’t be fooled into thinking everything has to be “exactly” the same in a side by side vignette - but it’s perfectly ok to do so!!! A symmetrical room should make you feel calm and relaxed.
