This exquisite pair of Regency giltwood convex girandole mirrors is available now at The Gallery at 200 Lex.

Convex mirrors were especially admired during the Regency period for the distinctive quality of their reflections.

Known colloquially as “bull’s-eye” mirrors, they provided unusually wide fields of view and amplified candlelight in a way that brought warmth, movement and theatricality to a room.

The Gallery is open M-F 9:30am-5:30pm. No appointment necessary.

PAAVO TYNELL

This rare, eight-light “Ballerina” chandelier by Paavo Tynell for Lightolier features eight elegantly curved brass arms, each holding signature perforated brass shades. (See slide two for a close up).

Very good condition, with a lovely patina to the brass. Circa 1958.

This exquisite, hand-crafted console from Videre Licet has just arrived at The Gallery.

It is meticulously constructed of large Abalone shell pieces suspended in resin with a stainless steel top, extra large in scale. A true statement piece.

This whimsical wall plate by Finnish ceramic artist Birgir Kaipiainen features pansies, pears and leaves painted over iridescent glaze in purple and green, with ceramic bead “grapes”.

At a time when Finnish design leaned towards stripped-down functionalism, Kaipiainen drew inspiration from fairy tales and nature. 1920-1949, signed.
