I recently visited the to see the black photojournalism exhibition, and it was truly outstanding.
What made the visit even more special was seeing my dad’s photograph of Alvin Ailey featured in the exhibit, especially since it’s located in Pittsburgh, his birthplace.
Although my dad passed away in 2017, his legacy continues to inspire us all❤️

“Black Photojournalism presents work by nearly 60 photographers chronicling historic events and daily life in the United States from the conclusion of World War II in 1945 to the presidential campaigns of 1984, including the civil rights movements through the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.”

Clay bricks, metal bicycle

Mexican-born Héctor Zamora creates a portrait of his adopted country in his assisted ready-made sculpture. A pile of modular red bricks is balanced atop a standard-issue bicycle, suggesting says the artist, “a portable edification, yet a construction on volatile, in this instance, inflatable foundations.
Above the rubber tubes, supported by the false permanency of the still bicycle, rests the weight of a delirious composition of progress: Brazil.” As more people flock to urban centers seeking work and shelter, these cinder-block bricks become the ubiquitous building components of DIY housing, and of businesses quickly conceived and abandoned. The precariousness of rapidly changing social and economic conditions in cities throughout the world today is reflected in Zamora’s homage to the plight of the Brazilian laborer.
