Firefighters stood in the rain in Brooklyn on Sunday, in full gear, ready to walk the route Stephen Siller ran on September 11th.

He ran it carrying his gear, through the tunnel, to reach the Towers. He never made it home. Twenty-five years later, firefighters from Newark, Kenilworth, DC, and so many other departments still walk it for him, and for every hero we lost that day.

New Yorkers filed 753,222 noise complaints last year. Wakefield had the most, Flatbush came in second.

What those numbers don't show is how many of those complaints actually led anywhere. A 311 call is often just the start of the process, not a fix, and a lot of what people report (traffic, transit, everyday city noise) isn't breaking any law in the first place.

That drilling you see is the noisiest moment of the whole job. A few hours later the team packs up and leaves. And the apartment behind those windows is a different place.

We get asked this a lot: "does it actually work, or is that just a number you put on a flyer?"

Fair question. Here's the honest version. We install a second window in front of your existing one, which creates a sealed air gap between the two panes. Sound has to physically cross glass, then air, then glass again to reach you, and it loses a little more energy at each step. That's not a sales pitch, that's just how sound isolation works.

By the time it gets through the whole system, you're looking at an STC rating of 48 to 54. If you've been wondering how this actually holds up, hopefully that clears it up a bit.

This morning a client let the Citiquiet team into their space expecting the worst.

Drop cloths on the floor. Dust in the air. The kind of installation that takes over a home for a day and leaves you cleaning up for another two.

That is what most people picture when they hear the words window installation in New York City.

By the time the team packed up and left, the drapes were back on the rod. The furniture was exactly where it had always been. The floors were clean. The space looked untouched.

And then they closed the door. And the city outside just stopped.
