A year ago this week I signed with my first client in Alameda, a lovely couple who were already knee deep in a major house renovation and were starting to think about how to decorate the space once the work was complete.
With two young boys, it was important that the furniture be as sustainable as it is stylish. So we focused on for the sofa, charcoal boucle on the armchairs, performance velvet for the dining chairs, and highly wipeable surfaces for the TV console, coffee table and dining table.
My clients wanted a really clean, modern look that they could really entertain in. We painted all the walls “White Duck” to offer a crisp off white base that would complement all the furniture choices.
In a huge open floor plan space like this, it can be a challenge to make each area feel distinguished from the rest. Whether it’s the oversized ceiling fixture in the dining room or the ombré rug in the living room, we chose signature pieces that would bring definition and character to every space.
Then I brought in my carpentry partner-in-crime to build this stunning mudroom cabinetry with slat wood panels made to match the kitchen cabinets. While usually I have everything photographed empty, it was important to show just how much these built-ins would fit for a family of four. Design is as much about functionality as it is aesthetic. Seeing how much my clients rely on this room is proof of that.
It was a really fun and rewarding project from start to finish (despite some COVID-era furniture delays). I’m so excited that my clients got to really show it off to friends and family over the holidays, and look forward to adding thesephotos from to my portfolio!
