So grateful to see this very special project featured in Hamptons Cottages & Gardens. ❤️

A project that was incredibly dear to our amazing clients and to us—and one that came together through a truly wonderful collaboration. Thank you to our clients for trusting us with such a special home.

Thank you Clinton Smith and the HC&G team for sharing it, and Laura Fenton for telling its story so beautifully.

To Chris Gardner of TUNA Architecture, the best creative partner; Bill Stratton Building Company, for the incredible craftsmanship and ex*****on; Wagner Hodgson Landscape Architecture, for approaching the landscape with such thoughtfulness and reverence; and Tim Lenz, for your always incredible eye and for capturing it all so beautifully.

And always my ESD Team — couldn’t do it without you! ❤️

Very proud of this one.

This home dated back to 1709, so the age was a major factor in every design decision. We didn’t want to lose any of it, but we also didn’t want a delicate museum where the owners felt they had to tread lightly in their own spaces. The design, the whole interior, had to be approachable and functional while still recognizable as an historical landmark.

“We loved that the surfaces-like the undulating plaster walls and exposed beams-showed their age. So all we did was freshen them up with paint to keep the feeling of the house light and bright. In some areas, we peeled away materials that had been added over the years (centuries in fact!) to better appreciate the honesty that a stone home of that era embodies. It can be lived in just as it is for centuries to come.”

New York homes hold a lot of history, but it’s our mission to define the purpose of a space, showcase its distinctive character, and create environments that are emotionally engaging and visually striking. This ultimately requires an artisanal touch through curating pieces and finishes that imbue the whole space with a harmonious authenticity. Bespoke plasters and paints and the brands that create them have earned our adoration for their dedication to craft and devotion to design brilliance.

Interior designers are discovering a new desire among clients: color! While not everyone is quite brave enough to coat the walls in fuchsia or sunset yellow, there is still a trend towards wall colors and patterns with more to offer than beige. We saw the millennial beige era and now we’re moving into a realm of depth. Achieving this does not mean banishing the hues of soft khaki and eggshell altogether. Rather, it’s artfully mixing those basic neutrals with accents, wallpapers, and décor to embrace trending color palettes in your modern interior.
