Hey y’all! I’m Kim and I never took the time to introduce myself. I’m the Principal Designer at Apex Home Interiors and I thought there’s no better way to REALLY introduce myself than to talk about what brought me to the interior design world. Now this is a bit lengthy, but as would say, “that’s my business” 😍🥰
Growing up in a small town in the Midwest there wasn’t a lot of exposure to design. As a kid, I had an intense passion for architecture, home interiors, textures and art. Although limited, my grandmothers Better Home & Gardens magazine and the JCPenney catalog (y’all remember those big books.. lol) ignited a visual interest of creativity. While most kids looked at the clothes, toys or wedding section. I would look at the home section and dream about what my interiors would one day look like. I would cut out furniture, artwork, and accessories to create a collage of my “dream room”. I had NO idea at that time I was creating mood boards.
Another discovery highlight was my excursions to Joanne’s with my mom. I was always provided the opportunity to select my fabric and would lose myself in an array of beautiful colors. To my dismay my mom would reject my choices since it was upholstery fabric. I was so confused until I learned why upholstery material wouldn’t work for an outfit. (I know poor baby Kim had no idea.... haha). And today it’s still my favorite fabric!
From these early experiences I learned that I was drawn to design or somehow it already lived in me. I see design before I see anything else!! ❤️❤️🏡🧩🛋🛏🪑
