Looking in, looking out. The superscale John Wayne movie poster provides some amusement for the local elk population, who are some of the few creatures who get to glimpse into this home from their adjacent protected refuge area. The same window provides a view back to THEIR home, too, noting our spectacular Charlotte Perriand inspired custom media cabinet.

Outdoorsy doesn't always mean uncomfortable. What you don't see: The small track in the ceiling and along the porch is a retractable screen making this space an attractive living area in many, uh, conditions. The track over the south-facing window hides a sunscreen, blocking heat from ever hitting the window and entering the home. What do you see? Oh yeah, that spa and the special porch posts framing the view. Yes! that is custom cut travertine coping.

How a house changes throughout the day is something we think a lot about- inside and out. This exquisite Jackson WY home comes alive in the evening with the help of well placed lighting at the porch columns, eaves, and sculptural porch steps. The glass-rondelle art, which illuminates the living room by day, is a gift to the neighborhood by night. Scroll-> to see the photos through the day.

A grid of Karl Blossfeldt prints complements the extraordinary landscape outside this bedroom's windows. -> scroll to see the VIEW! The custom cerused-oak headboard, floating over the travertine stone floors features guest storage on the opposite side. The neutral tones of the leather headboard, floors, and bed linens contrast beautifully with the white room and black frames. Photo by

This sweet primary suite needed to be 'light and bright but not hospital sterile'. We started with the wall color, 'Brandy Cream' . This created a wonderful contrast with the Owner's art, a lively city scene composed of greys, teal, and burnt sienna. The depth of the art, the color of the wall, and exquisite sconces make this space unique, bright, and personal. Photo by

Going up? This house design is an assembly of prefabricated parts- structure, kitchen, fireplace- even down to the stairs. Doing it this way wasn’t without challenges, but those came with the reward of a light and beautiful set of steps set into a channel glass bay window. Fun fact- most steps are built off site but only after the space has been framed. This was unique because the engineering and manufacturing was done in parallel, before the structure was complete. 📸

NYC Photo bomb! While admiring this new custom stair, we noticed an iconic city water tower peeking through the door to the roof terrace. The original post was going to note the way light from the skylight strikes the walls, highlights the metal rail and passes to lower levels via open risers... but... hey... is this... Oh, well, then, hi water tower! Welcome to the par-tay! Photo by

Surprises in the stairs! The lower run of steps in this NYC triplex remodel project (looks both ways, up and down, then whispers) incorporates hidden drawers. Fit-out to maximize interior capacity; this sneaky storage shows how we maximize every inch of space.

Mama's lil' helper. This small, functional space is an enclosed pantry set off to the side of a generous open kitchen and family room. Its an anteroom of sorts and having doors that close provides a messy zone for whomever is throwing the party... mama, papa, some helpers... we don't know. It was designed to be serviceable and beautiful, with soapstone counters set flush with the custom white oak cabinetry and limestone floors. We added inset mirrors to the panelling to pull in the views of bucolic rural New Jersey.
