VMAD and EMPIRE OFFICE have collaborated on multiple projects in New York City over the years, so when EMPIRE OFFICE, the nation’s largest Steelcase dealer, approached VMAD to design their new Headquarters and Showroom, we were thrilled. This project represented a rethinking of how showrooms function and the brand aesthetic for Empire Office. VMAD worked closely with the EMPIRE Teams on all aspects of the design, furniture selections, and finishes, making this truly a great collaboration.

Challenge accepted!

The Challenge? Take a vacant big box retail space and transform it into a dynamic, cross-branded hub for Williams-Sonoma, Inc.’s flagship brands - West Elm, Pottery Barn, and Williams Sonoma. VMAD’s Commercial Team rose to the challenge, transforming a dated red brick box into a dynamic center of retail innovation.

When Madewell approached VMAD in November 2019 and asked if we could design, draw, permit, build and make ready their new store concept for Hudson Yard's grand opening in four months, we gulped and said, "Yes we can". It was very close! But we did it! It is
so interesting to look back at that time and the changing face of New York retail today. Happy to report -- Madewell is thriving.
