The truth about starting a design business?
It’s not what you think.

Everyone loves the dreamy part, the inspiration, the aesthetic, the big reveal. And yes, that’s in there. But if I’m honest, building a company is about 5% design.

The other 95%?
Tenacity.
Bravado.
Problem-solving.

And just enough stupidity to jump off a cliff without fully knowing how high it is.

I adore this room using our "Helene" wallpaper here at my sister's house in Orcas Island. For those of you who don't know it, Orcas Island is in the San Juan Islands (Washington State) and is one of Mother Nature's most spectacular acheivments. I grew up coming here in the summers and my sister just bought and renovated a house a few miles down the beach from our parent's house. This room has views all around the house and makes our grasscloth wallpaper shine.

My sister Kathryn installed this wallpaper in her new house in Orcas Island. She sent me some etching of lobsters and I made them into a wallpaper for her (nice sister, right?). I thought it was gong to be sort of creepy, but here is looks pretty amazing. She absolutely loves it in this side entry. Note the amazing old hotel key holder we found at Round Top last year. What do you think? Shall I launch the lobster wallpaper? Swipe to see it closer up.

I just got back from staying with my sister, Kathryn, in her new fabulous house in Orcas Island (in the San Juan islands , Washington state for those of you who have never heard of it).
She decorated this bedroom room in our "Village Green" wallpaper, color "Bullseye Blue, in fact, I designed it for her a few years ago and made it in this color which is ALWAYS her favorite color. To the point that I call this pale grayish lavender color 'Kathryn's color" in our system. More photos of her house to come... she used my papers in lots of rooms. Some of which haven't even been launched yet... Stay tuned for a sneak peak.
