Rodchenko, one of the leaders of photography in Russia starting at the beginning of the 20th Century, created this piece with his wife, Varvara Sepanova. It’s a combination of three of his famous images plus painted lettering. I love collages. It has the sense of the hand of the artist. It was in my bedroom, and it was the first image that I saw when I woke up in the morning.

This Brancusi photograph represents photographs taken by the artist. Quite unique at the time. This particular image is a beautiful print with richness of tonality and one of his most famous sculptures, which just sold at Sotheby’s part of the new house sale. I love the fact that it is missing a corner. It gives it a personal touch.

As you know, I rarely jump on the bandwagon when it comes to design trends. But when Dina Cheney, writing for Washington Post, asked me about the worst design trends, I had more than a few pet peeves to share. For one, the advent of the McMansion builds – with their enormous square footage and vast great rooms. Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better, and these oversized spaces aren’t always conducive to the way people actually want to live.

To me, good home design should always come back to how we live - creating spaces that feel comfortable, serene, intimate, and connected. After all, a home should feel like a home, not a showroom.

I can’t stop thinking about it - and talking about it.

I am so excited about the upcoming Christie’s auction of my photography collection. Though I’ve honed my visual perspective through my interior design endeavors, I’ve also employed that same passion through my photography collecting, which I have been doing for 50 years. And, is now coming to fruition. The sale of my photographs will begin on October 8th online followed by a live auction October 22nd.

Another favorite tip of mine that Nina Derwin included in her Veranda Magazine article is LET THE SPACE BREATHE. “Luxury often isn’t about adding more but removing what’s unnecessary. Less really is more. Air around the furnishings gives a room a relaxed quality that allows the design elements to have greater impact.

The difference is hard to spot but makes all the difference! The first photo of Dorothea Lange’s Migrant Mother is the one in my collection being auctioned at Christie’s next month in a unique, private sale. The second image is the version you have probably seen. To my delight, when I noticed that Mom’s thumb appears in this, a very rare, early print before Dorothea decided the photo is better without the thumb – I had to own it.

This image is part of the 230-piece photo collection will be auctioned online at Christie's . Starting October 8th - - concluding with a live auction on the 22nd! These photos have been my dear friends, images that I have researched, sought out world-wide, collected and lived with, some of them for close to 50 years. Ever so grateful 🙏 to ELLE DECOR for their coverage of my upcoming Christie's auction! Divided into two parts, the Vicente Wolf Photography Collection includes an online sale running October 8–22, followed by a live auction in New York on October 22.

I’ve lived with my 200 plus photographs that I researched, sought out world-wide, collected and lived with, some of them for close to 50 years. They include rare pieces by Man Ray, Diane Arbus, Constantin Brâncuși, Francesca Woodman, Dorothea Lange and many more – including my prized Marilyn that was the original cover of Pl***oy Magazine in 1946.

I’m going to miss my Marilyn - and all of my old friends.

It was fun to consider the “Ways to Make Your Entryway Look More Expensive”. Thank you, Nina Derwin, for including my quotes in your Veranda Magazine article. Here’s one I especially like and a tip I use all the time: CHOOSE ONE STANDOUT PIECE “Whatever your style, select furnishings that exude wealth,” and that doesn’t mean chasing labels or items with a hefty price tag. That might mean a significant piece of art, an antique, or exquisitely crafted console—but it could also mean something unexpected such as a piano or unusual sculptural object.”
