The piece I waited for. 🤎

You can search and search for the perfect antique, but sometimes you just have to be patient and let the right piece find its way to you.

On a whim, my mom and I went to browse an antique store ‘just for the fun of it’. We walked in and there it was - we finally found the perfect antique secretary to use as my nightstand and when I went to pay for it, the store owner told me the vendor just brought it in that morning. I waited and waited and then it found me! Just like I had imagined, somehow it made the whole room feel warmer, cozier, and more me.

That’s the beauty of collecting a home over time. The wait is absolutely worth it.

When Autumn settles in gently, every corner feels like a warm embrace. 🍂⁣

It was time to bring a touch of Autumn to my mom’s beautiful bedroom and use the same approach we’ve been doing throughout the rest of our home.⁣
⁣
Create the feeling or essence of the season simply by how we use color, textiles, lighting and things found in nature in place of using (and having to store) a lot of seasonal decor.
⁣
A few stems, a pillow swap and one of our pheasant figurines - and that easily, we were able to achieve a cozy & elegant Autumn mood.⁣
⁣
Like we’ve said many times before, approaching seasonal decor this way doesn’t take special talent or skill or an excess of money. It just takes seeing things through different eyes, trying something new and going for it!⁣

Something happens each time the calendar page turns to September.⁣..

The baker in me resurfaces. And just like we 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳, we 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯, too.⁣

So, I did what all good seasonal bakers do, I ⁣made a delicious 𝙋𝙪𝙢𝙥𝙠𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 like it was my job.⁣ 😉

Yesterday, I heard that familiar sound of the deep gold and brown leaves crunching beneath my feet. Even though I could still feel the warmth of the Summer sun on my face, the sound of the leaves felt like a visit from a dear old friend - 𝘈𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘮𝘯.⁣
⁣
The way that late August begins to turn Summer’s bright, beautiful colors to duller, muted shades of the original - that’s where we find the inspiration for seasonal decor. ⁣

The more layers we add, the more our house feels like a home. 🤎

Antiques, thrifted finds, pieces we’ve collected and refinished, some old, some new — each one bringing a little more warmth, a little more history, a little more character and a little more of ‘that feeling’….you know the one. You can’t quite put your finger on, but it’s undeniably there.🤎
⁣
This vintage Windsor chair is a perfect example. It feels like it was meant to be right in this spot. And adding an extra chair that doesn’t have a mate anywhere else is what adds character & interest, or at least that’s what we’re going with. 😉
⁣
⁣And how about a huge shoutout to my 82 year old mom who had a vision for this Nichols and Stone chair (that we paid less than $3 for) and gave it a beautiful new life! The summer light has taken on a warmer glow and the limelight’s have moved from their creamy white petals to the iconic muted green with that touch of soft plum - perfectly timed like they do every single August. I couldn’t let them whither away and not bring some inside where they can have a second beautiful life in a vintage silver pitcher. (And a couple other places around our home.🤍)

Summer isn’t quite ready to leave, but there’s 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙞𝙧…and we’re more than ready to listen. 🍂⁣
