NYC is fabulous, tho I miss Paris already! I’m still thinking about the lovely visit to Atelier Brancusi at the Pompidou. I learned that in his sculpture studio, the relationship between the pieces, how they interacted in space, and their unity as a whole was important to him. Much like an arrangement of furnishings… each piece relates to the other, and the spaces in between are equally as important.

(Thank you Adrien Segal for the museum recommendation!)

Sigh… the magical gardens of Marqueyssac! I must say… I never thought topiary could be done tastefully, but of course the French bring it to another level. Magnificent!

The 17th-century Château de Marqueyssac and it’s gardens are located in the Dordogne region of France.

France Trip Photos!

Inspiration at the Musee des Arts et Metiers- the museum of scientific and technological invention.

This is one of my favorite places in Paris, and I’m glad we had a chance to go. Here you find curious inventions and scientific objects from centuries ago… timekeepers, mathematical calculators, microscopes, flying machines, musical instruments, brick and tile makers, weaving machines, medical instruments, early motor vehicles and computers… It’s fascinating to me to see these objects, particularly from the perspective of artistry/craft intersecting with function.

Ahhh, the joy of finding the perfect wallpaper for a client. This one delicately balances earthy and ethereal. As the day passes, or as clouds pass, I imagine the light reflected on the surface shifting gently...breathing.

Black & white toile wallpaper! I love the neutral palette we did in this guest bedroom. The visual texture/pattern/scale of the wallpaper softens and warms what you typically might find in black and white themed rooms.

Join me online this Thursday (tomorrow!) to watch students compete and present their architectural models made out of school supplies, and share their creative videos!

It’s Recipe for a Room! My amazing co-producer and collaborator Susan Link and I are excited to bring you this event again for the second year, hosted by the AIANY Interiors Committee. We're thrilled to have created a fun online event that benefits Volunteers of America, and also brings students together with amazing mentors.

X-rays might be on my mind these days. I’m thrilled to say that my wrist is healing nicely. Does anyone else think that the metal plate they put in there looks like an Ooks picture hanger?

I’m excited to kick off August's theme of wallpaper, with one that looks like a floral x-ray by the lovely folks at Trove. www.troveline.com “Syrma-002”

Design and Tile: May 29

Soft isn’t a word typically used to describe tiles… but it seems to be a good one for *these* tiles. Matte cream wall tiles in our 17th Street project, laid out in a horizontal stacked fashion, creating a light and quiet feel.

Tile: Nemo Tile “Lingotto, Ivory, 4x16”
Sink: Duravit AG “Happy D”
Fittings: KOHLER “Purist”
