The first long evening of the year deserves a slower table — limewashed plaster, ivory linen down the length of the oak, three pillar candles, and a travertine sconce warming the wall above. The Capital Wall Lamp does this work indoors and out. Memorial Day buildup told in stone and olive branches, not flags.

If your whole kitchen turns on with one switch, that's the tell.

Designers never light a kitchen with a single fixture. They build it in three layers. Ambient is the sculptural piece overhead that holds the room even when it's off. Task is under-cabinet light along the counter plus one good pendant over the island, the light you actually cook by. Accent is the part almost everyone skips, a small sconce by the range hood that makes the whole room feel finished.

Get all three and the kitchen stops feeling like somewhere you cook and starts feeling like a room you'd sit in long after dinner.

She lives with it.

The Ribeauville Table Lamp is two carved pieces of white marble — a flat circular disc standing upright, a small rounded dome glowing warm in front. The light emanates from behind the disc and washes the wall beyond in a soft warm halo. A small jewel for a console table.

The Geode Ceiling Light is hand-pitted plaster with a warm amber interior — asymmetric, lopsided in the best way, no two alike. By day the pitted surface holds the afternoon light. By dusk the warm amber interior wakes and throws a warm gold pool back onto the wood.

The kind of corner you sit in because the morning asked you to. A fiddle-leaf fig in hand-thrown terracotta in the back of the frame, a cream linen chair pulled toward the window, a pothos trailing from above like the room is breathing. The paperback is face-down on the cushion. The coffee is still warm. Sunday earned this one.

A woven rattan lounger angled toward the pool, a sweating glass on the side table, a straw hat folded beside it the way a guest sets down a coat. This is the kind of morning the cabana was built for — light moving slowly through the slats, brass catching it, the day in no particular hurry.
