The work of my firm, Andrew Suvalsky Designs, is focused on creating complete visual stories that reveal the soul of a home, drawing inspiration from the unique qualities of the dwelling and the people living there. Our work includes full interior design and interior architectural services. Custom-designed furniture and cabinetry, mixed with every-day and one-of a kind pieces, are a signature to these designs.

In Manhattan, square footage is a luxury in itself. Here are my top strategies for making a compact apartment feel expansive. ↑

Most clients come to us exhausted by choices.

Thousands of furniture options. Endless finishes. Conflicting opinions. And the fear of spending significant money on something that still won’t feel right once it arrives.

That’s often where custom becomes the smarter path.

Instead of forcing a ready-made piece into a room, going custom gives us the option to design something that actually fits, both physically and aesthetically.

We also handle the process for our clients, sourcing makers, refining options, reviewing details, and guiding decisions from the first swatch samples to the finished piece.

What if the foyer could be a statement instead of a mere threshold?

For this 1900s English-inspired residence in Bronxville, we let the historic architecture lead. Rich wood paneling wraps the walls; wainscoting and delicate moulding intact. A high-gloss ceiling adds unexpected contrast and lifts the eye upward, while shades of blue echo the sky-blue front door. A marble-topped entry table grounds it all in quiet, old-world authority.

A room that tells you everything about the home before you've seen any of it.

Whether we're designing a Manhattan penthouse, a summer home in East Hampton, an oceanfront condo in Palm Beach, or a family home in New Jersey, we bring each design to life from the same foundational principles.

When these four elements align, a home feels composed, intuitive, storied, and entirely personal. Which of these most resonates with how you think about your own home?

The rooms people can't stop talking about almost always have wallpaper.

And it's not a coincidence. But the key is choosing the right paper for the right room. I always start with the architecture over the sample book. What's the natural light doing? What's the room's job (sleeping, entertaining, powder bath, transitional space)? Pattern needs a reason to be there. Some of the most arresting rooms I've designed use wallpaper with a single strong motif and nothing competing with it.

When it works, the wallpaper feels inevitable. →

Of all the brilliant colors out there to choose from, it's easy to get overwhelmed when making a decision.

We narrow it down for our clients based on a few key questions:

→ How do you want to feel in this room, and at what time of day?
Morning kitchen light feels different than evening bar lighting. Whether it's a space to energize, ground, relax, or impress guests, color should support the mood the room is meant to emanate.

→ What actually happens in this space?
In this case, we have a bar where a host invites guests for a drink. Rich, moody tones made sense because the room is activated in the evenings, under layered lighting, or in the late afternoon with the sun illuminating the gold-leaf ceiling overhead. Let the color support the ritual.

→ Where does your natural light come from?
Rooms drenched in sunlight can absorb deeper, saturated hues without feeling heavy.

→ Are there shades that stir something in you?
Whether a color brings you back to a memory, makes you feel calm, confident, or energized, that's worth paying attention to.

If you're new here, let me introduce myself. I'm Andrew, founder of ASD and a firm believer that the best rooms don't play it safe.

After twenty-plus years designing homes across New York, the Hamptons, Palm Beach, and beyond, that conviction hasn't changed. We do full-service luxury interiors and architectural renovations (my background is in interior architecture). And our work typically mixes antique with custom pieces, and strong color with real restraint. Our aim is to craft a home that's uniquely yours, and entirely unforgettable.

Nail the layout, and square footage matters far less.

In our Lincoln Center Penthouse, a two-bedroom pied-à-terre was reimagined into a four-bedroom, entertainment-ready home designed for hosting family in the city.

We rebuilt the apartment with layout as the priority. We introduced four bedrooms, multiple workspaces, a chef’s kitchen, butler’s pantry, and wine bar, all within a compact footprint that still feels open and expansive.

Smart storage doesn't have to be a style compromise.

Function is non-negotiable, but it should live seamlessly within the design. I'm sharing a few approaches that work for me almost every single time, no matter a project's scale. ↑

Acquiring the artwork is one step. Designing around it is another.

Whether we’re integrating an existing collection or curating pieces alongside our clients, the approach remains consistent; art is considered early, and everything else is built in response to it.

In our latest blog, we share the design decisions (from scale and placement to lighting and material) that ensure each piece is experienced exactly as it should be.
