PLEASE HELP ME!!My boyfriend and I moved back in with my parents. I just got out of the army and am finishing my college degree and he’ll also be going college. Save money. Live with family lol!My parents love the idea of me being home. They’re very kind and great people. They made us a little “apartment” upstairs with our own room, office/living room, bathroom and our own door to downstairs because of my kitty. They have dogs who like kittys as chew toys lol. Anyhow, this is in my hallway between my bathroom and my room. We don’t need any kitchen stuff as we have 0 issues utilizing the ones with my parents, the cabinets are gonna be filled with blankets and towels. But I have NO idea what to do with this shelf … I have tried Pinterest and coming up lacking.

What is this kind of bed spread called? I am thinking of getting another one that is heavier. I remember my grandmother having them on the beds in her house when I was little. I have no idea how to search for them online or where to shop. Any ideas?

I hope someone can help me! 😊

We're moving into this house soon (the furniture in the photos is not ours), and I really want to update the fireplace. Unfortunately, removing the existing tile isn't in the budget right now, so I'm trying to figure out what I can do in the meantime.

I tend to prefer a warmer, cozier look. Do peel-and-stick tiles actually hold up and look good? Has anyone had success with them?

I've been mocking up ideas and staring at photos for DAYS, and I just can't seem to get it right! 😅

If this were your fireplace, how would you update it without tearing out the existing tile? I'd love to see pictures and hear any suggestions you have. Thank you! 🏡✨

I need an opinion….we are in the home stretch of our whole home remodel (thank you Baby Jesus 😉) and this week our contractor showed the crown molding that was ordered and pointed out there will be a small gap all the way around and they will not touch the ceiling.

I am torn, and feel that this < 1” gap will look like a mistake, but if we go to the ceiling and the ceiling is not completely straight that the crown will call that out.

We have options:

1. Live with it
2. Contractor says he can put in a filler that would cover the gap
3. Make them get the right width of molding

I am leaning toward 3, but REALLY want to make #1 be ok. #2 is out in my opinion.

Thoughts? If you have this gap and would be willing to share photos, I would be so grateful!

EDIT:

Now I know that “riser” is the proper term, not filler. Also, there is going to be a pony wall along that side so a skin is not needed.

Thank you all for the input! I was set against option 2 but think this will be the way we go. Also, as many pointed out, how would I clean that gap? Loved all of the lighting pics, but we are already doing toe kick and under cabinet lighting so I think we will be lit up enough.

**EDIT:** Thank you all for the suggestions!

The countertops are gray Formica and are actually in great shape. I'd eventually like to replace them with granite and lower the raised bar so everything is on one level.

And just to clarify… I'm pretty sure I do **not** want to paint the cabinets. 🤣 I like the oak and want to keep the wood look.

We also plan to extend the cabinets all the way to the ceiling someday, but we have plenty of other projects to tackle first.

We're moving into this home soon and would like to refresh the kitchen without painting the cabinets. We'd love to repaint the walls, replace the countertops, and add a backsplash.

What paint colors, countertop materials/colors, and backsplash styles would you recommend to help tone down the orange/golden hue of the oak cabinets while still complementing them?

Thanks so much for your ideas and inspiration! 😊

Update 80s bathroom on a budget but keep the quirky warmth
Looking for ideas for updating this bathroom without losing its character!

The bathroom is quite large and has a lovely garden outlook from the bath. The bath, basin and benchtop are all a pale green with yellow undertone. Replacing them isn’t in the budget right now, so any update needs to work with them. This is just a cosmetic (flooring, paint, art? maybe extending to tapware, mirror, lights).

I’d like to keep some of the “1970s adult movie” style timber because it gives a warm and cosy feeling that we love — but there is too much of it right now so we think we should paint some of it. One idea was to paint just the lower timber sections (the bath front and vanity cabinets). Another possibility is painting some of the walls while leaving the bath surround and window area timber.

The carpet is going as it’s damaged. We’re thinking large-format tiles, undecided on colour. However we’re very used to softness underfoot, so even with tile I’d like a substantial rug in here. Would a vintage-style rug work? Maybe a large round rug to break up all the diagonals and angles?

If this were your bathroom, what would you do?

We are doing a remodel. New flooring, new paint, new bathtub, new toilet, and a new countertop for my cabinets where the sink is. So I need to repaint the cabinets and don't know what kind of paint to use. I'm going to paint them iron ore by Sherwin-Williams. My contractor recommended Sherwin-Williams 'Emerald'. Anyone have any suggestions as to what Sheen I should use or anything else that would be helpful? The following picture is what I want my cabinets to look like when t… See more
