Gwynne McCue Interiors, Inc. NYC interior design firm bringing vision for uniquely personal residences. Soulful, creative, functional spaces for a happy life. http://www.gwynnemccue.com

Based in Manhattan, I create immersive residences that reflect the personality of the owners through beautiful materials, while restoring a sense of order, and improving functionality. On paper, it’s interior design, but clients say they gain happiness at home. I believe that good design can dramatically improve daily life and I like solving problems to maximize potential in any space. I engage cl

ients in a collaboration and give shape to a unique home through thoughtful observation. My designs blend the client’s style with my vision for them through personalized picks, custom furniture, performance finishes, and one-of-a-kind creations unavailable in stores. My background in interiors was shaped by working beside some of the brightest talents in the field, supporting residential design and product sourcing for a Manhattan home boutique and assisting AD 100 designers with furniture production at a top-drawer upholsterer. While a business degree from the University of Richmond guides clear processes, my broad base of interests, from travel and art to Japanese textiles and continuing education at the New York School of Interior Design, Pratt Institute, and New York University, inform my aesthetic eye. In 2022, Organic Spa Magazine featured a bathroom renovation I designed. That interview spread joins my 2014 New York Design Award for an innovative dining space and a gold medal for Apartment Therapy’s Big Reveal Makeover Contest in 2015. I am a coastal Connecticut native but a New Yorker at heart who lives and works in Chelsea among a few too many throw pillows.

So excited to hit in NC, the world's largest industry only Trade show for furnishings! I'll see millions of products in person, touch them, open drawers, try out seating & more. I can't wait to apply all that inspiration & knowledge for my clients while gaining real life experiences that online shopping can't provide. All products are not created equal - Mr. Eames is right!

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN: Take an inspiring virtual tour of the Japan Society’s current Boro Textiles Exhibit through my pics. In tough times, sustainable aesthetics do more with less. Long ago, a lack of fabrics for cold Winters inspired the Japanese tradition of repeatedly patching & repairing clothes with whatever was available. They created intricately layered, longer-lasting garments & bedding with an appreciation for irregularities, stitchwork, and the avoidance of waste. And they are magicians of modern-day clothing restoration! We could all take a lesson in the beauty created by preserving existing resources (I'm working on a similar Pillow refurbishment project for a client as we speak). The show suspends garments from the ceiling with lights inside to illuminate all the layers, inside & out. So neat. Perhaps they’ll reopen before the show ends 6/14/20? Everyone stay safe & healthy!

When I trade my decorator's heels for hiking boots, new challenges unfold. Thank you 2019 for this climb to the top of Mt. Whitney: 225 miles over 3 weeks on the John Muir Trail w/no guide or porters, whew! Nature will teach you everything you need to know about perseverance. I'm happy to help anyone plan their trek w/my itinerary, gear list, menu & training. "Of all the roads you take in life, make sure a few are dirt." J. Muir

The 47th Decorator Show House last week was dynamite. My Mom took me as a kid & now I take her annually. Here are some preview pics but I can't do these rooms justice. I noticed a decidedly feminine and lighter touch to the whole house this time. Pops of fashion-y yellow, curvy/furry furniture and lots of pinks & plums greeted visitors throughout. Blue is still going strong also. The show goes til May 30th and proceeds benefit the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. Don't miss it!

Give your stairs a smart look with graphic, patterned carpet like this classic David Hicks I installed for a client in White Plains. TIP: Removing the dark border from the "before" style makes the stairs look wider.
