A tiny galley kitchen we upgraded some years ago --- in what was apparently Paul Newmans 1950s bachelor pad in NYC. I still love it's coziness and midcentury vibe.

A Quiet Covid NYC Christmas | 2020.

A lion standing guard before the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue; lonely but festive restaurant front on 14th street; Rockefeller (aka Rocky), the baby owl found hiding inside the newly erected Rockefeller Center Xmas tree; Macy's on 42nd Street - the only true kids Xmas window display this year; the classic Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza, NYC.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays 2020

I'm in the process of fine tuning a challenging fabric scheme for a room in a project.

The client strongly insists in a color scheme that includes walls in a granny smith apple color and color inspiration from a magazine tear-out of a Versace advert. Those who know me know this is not my comfort zone. But ... it is precisely taking on these sometimes impossible challenges that makes the work infinitely interesting. (BTW, my new favorite color is raspberry pink!)

Nothing like snuggling in our "book cove" for a good night sleep. Overhead light in the cove, with reading lights at the perfect height that fold into the wall on either side of the bed. ⠀

And always happy when the client is as excited as I am for rich aubergine color velvet fabrics 😉⠀

I designed the Entry and Lower Staircase at the Kips Bay Showhouse with the idea I would show visitors possibilities and something they had never seen before.
As one of my icons Giorgio Armani is quoted as saying, “Elegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered”.

This past January, at the invitation of a client, I attended a Trustee lunch at one of the top contemporary museums in NY. There I struck a conversation with another Trustee and somehow the topic went to Kips Bay. She asked me if I remembered last year’s spectacular blue entry staircase, which she loved. As she was talking, I started to blush. I then proceeded to tell her I had done the space. This couldn’t have made for a better day - people remembered my space a whole year afterwards! And with this, I knew I had succeeded in what I had set out to do. 😎

This is not a one-man show, nor a one-studio show. It really takes a village and so I’m indebted and thankful to my vendors, suppliers, friends and media listed in no particular order:

This week marks the 1 year anniversary of my rooms at the New York Kips Bay Decorator Show House. It was a great honor to have been invited and stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the well-known greats of this industry.⠀
⠀
The 2020 version of the New York Kips Bay Decorators House has been regretfully postponed to the Fall because of the corona virus. This means the charity that takes care of the kids has had a great blow to it's fundraising efforts. ⠀
⠀
I encourage you, if possible, to donate to this cause. You can do so by going to KipsBay.org and click donate. THANK YOU.⠀

Good residential rooms are made of many vignettes, each with their own character, but sharing the spirit of the overall space so that the room does not look like a retail showroom. ⠀
⠀
One of my favorite vignettes we've put together thus far, is part of a project in Manhattan we did several years back. The "moment" is anchored by a very special custom cabinet in crushed eggshell lacquer. The technique was invented by the Japanese and later made internationally stylish by the French Art Deco masters. Today, a few top notch artisans can masterfully pay tribute to the technique. Mark de la Vega is one of the best.⠀
