A storage room doesn't have to stay a storage room.

At the Meatpacking Loft, a former storage space was reimagined to provide a powder bath, giving an overlooked part of the home an entirely new purpose.

I like transformations like this because the biggest change isn't always the room you add. Sometimes it's recognizing that an existing room could be doing something much more useful.

If you're planning a substantial renovation in New York, let's talk.

Trying something new and sharing what’s on my camera roll, novel idea, I know. Shots of where we’ve been, what we’ve been up to, what’s inspiring us, with some design BTS in here, too. See ya later.

Color doesn't need to cover a room to change it.

In the NoMad Apartment, a periwinkle stripe wraps the girls' bathroom, providing a bold move in a tight space while maintaining a bright and airy feel.

I like color most when you can tell exactly what it's doing.

Look for the place where one deliberate move could do more than five smaller ones.

Not everything worth designing starts with something new.

In the Upper West Side Remodel, a slipper chair that belonged to the client's mother stayed with the family. We reupholstered it in blush velvet with extra long gold fringe and gave it a place in the primary suite.

I love when an object can change enough to belong in a new room without losing the history that made it worth keeping.

Good hospitality often comes down to anticipating a need before someone asks.

At our Berkshires Retreat, the client requested (and we incorporated) a small market nook for guests as part of a home that also functions as a vacation rental.

It's not the biggest design gesture in the house, but it's the kind of detail that makes arriving and settling in easier.

Save this one if you're thinking about the small details that make guests feel considered.

One of the best references in a renovation can come from the house itself.

At Galactic Gables, original linoleum floors discovered in the kitchen during the demolition phase of project became the inspiration for a recreated floor in one of the bathrooms.

Rather than copying the past room for room, we used one detail to carry a little of the house's history forward.

Metallic finishes don't have to make a room feel flashy.

At Lantern House, the fireplace combines gold, bronze, and black tones against a bronze mirror backdrop. The materials catch and shift the light, but the effect still feels grounded within the rest of the room.

I like a little reflection when it adds depth rather than demanding attention.

If you're planning a full-home project in New York, let's talk.

Stairs are something you experience in motion, so I don't think of the runner as background.

In the Hudson Yards penthouse, a custom stair runner adds color and movement as you travel between levels. It turns a transitional space into part of the visual experience of the home.

Design should touch every area of your home, not just the major rooms.

One of my favorite pieces in this NoMad gallery wall is a photograph of the Bay Area taken by the client.

We placed it at eye level, where it could be a daily reminder of the client's roots, among travel photography, sculpture, and mirrors.

The pieces with the most meaning aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest provenance. They're the ones the client already has a relationship with.

Not every architectural edge needs to stay hard.

At Brooklyn Heights, we specified custom planter boxes and climbing plants beside the exposed brick fireplace. As the greenery grows, it softens the masonry and connects the dining room to the garden views just outside the windows.

I love adding greenery to an interior. It brings life and natural movement you can't always achieve through other avenues.

It's a small detail with a very specific job.

Save this one if you're thinking about how plants can become part of the architecture.
