We had a lot of opinions regarding our new dresser….
The tradition of painted furniture can be traced back to ancient Egypt, Asia and Europe. Early folk art traditions blended indigenous, Spanish and African designs and colors native to the land. Early on it offered a splash of color to ordinary life, painted with simple designs and religious influence.
As time passed furniture painting become more elaborate. Adorned with scenes from mythology, literature and landscapes. Chinese lacquered furniture infused the European market with luxurious finishes of gold and even pearl. When furniture design became lighter, florals and pastels were prevalent. Wood working evolved giving us whimsical curves and intricate designs.
Leading us to clean lines and symmetry inspired by Greek and Roman art. Pieces became more formal, painted in whites, grays, and blues.
No matter your opinion, these finishes are rich with history. History displayed in museums and passed down through generations. Continuing to live on, adding character and tradition to modern interiors.
In a world where everything gets thrown away, we take pride in infusing life into old school craftsmanship.
Enjoy some of the pieces we’ve transformed over the using Annie Sloan 🤍
