The largest museum in North America is home to my favorite little nook, the Vélez Blanco Patio, also known as Castillo de los Fajardos. This beautiful courtyard, styled in Gothic and Renaissance architecture, was created in Andalusia, Spain during the 16th century. Thousands of marble pieces from the original castle were sold to a wealthy New Yorker, but they were ultimately acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Masters of light! ✨ Achieving this is simply remarkable. A single brush stroke can capture the essence of light from any source, whether it's the sun or a candle, bringing the canvas to life. The spoon symbolizes our journey with food, representing the evolution of human ingenuity. It was the first tool we embraced for nourishment, crafted from shells and later designed with handles made of bone, exhibiting our resourcefulness. We have certainly mastered the art of nourishment and design, reminding us how far we've come.

Museums offer a gateway to the past, inviting you to experience its wonders, even if just for a fleeting moment.

“Art can express people's fundamental ideas about the world and their place in it. Early pottery from Iran-dating to periods before the development of cities or writing-represents animals, plants, and landscapes, sometimes in abstract ways. It offers a chance to try to understand how its makers perceived and thought about their world.
Much later art continued to deal with similar themes.
The art of nomadic people from multiple societies across the Eurasian Steppe used shared imagery of composite creatures to express their perceptions of the natural and supernatural world, a category archaeologists call animal style.”

ancient Iranian pottery from the 4th-5th century BCE.
