TERRACE SEASON. With the weather warming up, I’m able to start using my favorite part of my Chelsea apartment: my wraparound terrace. It naturally extends the living space outdoors, whether for hosting or simply spending more time outside. It offers a reprieve from the pace of New York City, bringing in greenery, light, and a sense of calm to the middle of Chelsea. CL

CONNECTING CORNERS. Without a formal dining room, the guest cottage was designed with intimate moments for gathering woven throughout the home. The dining nook embraces this sensibility through layered texture and color with a built-in banquette upholstered in denim-toned fabric, paired with a glowing mustard glass pendant overhead. CL

WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK. The first step of any project is the furniture plan; it’s the foundation for designing a home that balances functionality with beauty. A well-considered layout sets the tone for how a room feels while ensuring it never compromises use. CL

SATURATED SURROUNDINGS.The color palette in this dining room creates a sense of intensity while remaining suited to everyday gathering. Here, color does not recede with darkness but deepens, shaping an atmosphere that feels both grounded and alive. CL

NATURAL CONNECTION. As spring arrives, outdoor space becomes an active extension of daily living. In Southampton, this patio was designed as a place for gathering, oriented to engage with the surrounding landscape.

Anchored by a fireplace, the space remains in use as temperatures drop, carrying the experience from day to night, encouraging guests to enjoy the outdoors with the same sense of comfort as the interior. CL

WHERE DESIGN BEGINS.The most considered interiors begin before a single piece of furniture is selected. Knowing when to open a plan, remove a ceiling, or modify a shell to admit light are architectural decisions that determine everything that follows. Design cannot fully breathe unless the architecture supports it, and vice versa. That instinct and understanding is the difference between arranging a room and genuinely—intelligently—composing one. SENSORY CONNECTION. Inspired by the landscape of Colorado, the primary bathroom is enveloped in wood, creating a sense of warmth and grounding it in its surroundings. Paired with expansive windows, the material palette draws the outdoors in, creating a continuous visual and sensory connection to nature. CL

ROOM TO BREATHE. This in-between space functions as a quiet prelude to both the living room and the outdoors beyond. Kept light and airy, it allows natural light and landscape views to take precedence, drawing the eye outward through the surrounding windows.

A round table with an owl sculpture offers a focal pause, echoing design details found just beyond in the living room, where a glimpse of the interior unfolds. CL

It all began with the existing cottage set in a shaded garden—its scale, proportions, and quiet presence set the tone for the entire project. From there, we worked to open and reframe the interiors, creating a layered retreat rooted in context, materiality, and a sense of ease. Here is how the Southampton guest cottage came to life.
