We often get asked… What’s the difference between REGULAR cleaning and DEEP cleaning?

Regular cleaning is what most people do on a regular basis e.g weekly, by-weekly or once a month. Deep clean is every 6 months to a year.

Regular cleaning It’s often to maintain a level of cleanliness around the house and often covers things like:
Vacuuming and mopping the floors, cleaning bathrooms – sink, mirror, bath and toilet. Cleaning the kitchen – wiping down work surfaces, cupboard doors. Beds change.

Deep cleaning is very different and is often a requirement before a tenant moves in or out, also known as an end of tenancy clean.
Deep cleaning is different from regular or spring cleaning because it reaches the deep grime and dirt in your home.
It covers areas which aren’t traditionally covered by a regular cleaning as well as decluttering .

Deep cleaning includes :
Cleaning behind kitchen appliances like the washing machine & fridge if they’re easily moved. Inside the oven including the oven door glass. Windows inside including windows frames. Patio doors. Washing all blinds. Full and deep dusting including all the all the corners of rooms for cobwebs, scale removal from all bathroom tiles, kitchen tiles, taps, shower heads. Inside the cupboards.

Example:
Lets take the bathroom as an example. As well as covering what a regular clean would, deep cleaning the bathroom means cleaning the inside and tops of the cupboards, including the medicine cabinet, underneath and behind the sink and toilet and using professional limescale remover to remove all built up scale from all taps, tiles and the shower head.

This is of course reflected in the time it takes to carry out the clean. Most regular cleaning is done by 2 people for 2-3 hours a week (4-6 hours for one person). A deep clean of a two bedroom house can take a cleaning team of 2-3 people up to 12 hours (average condition).

Time To Start Fresh: Follow These Steps To Deep Clean Your Space!

Many of us are spending a lot more time at home than in years past. And if you've noticed dust bunnies, streaky windows or that pile of clothes that keeps getting higher, now's a great time to clean house.

THINK about what you want to achieve. Figuring out what you want to get done — and why — is the first step. Figure out your goals for your space and really get your mindset into shape. Maybe it's a nightly wipe downs of kitchen counters, a weekly clean of the bathroom or a monthly deep clean of your whole house. Identifying what you want ahead of time makes it easier to get down to it.

DECLUTTER before cleaning.
Before you start deep cleaning, do some basic tidying up. Remember the maxim, "A place for everything and everything in its place." When everything is where it should be, it saves a lot of time when you actually start cleaning.
And you can arrange your stuff according to how you use it. “Don't change your habit, change your habitat."
You can kind of choose to design your home around your life, instead of designing your life around your home.

You don't need fancy products and cleaning equipment.
You need an all-purpose cleaner, a disinfectant and a window cleaner. All-purpose cleaner will work on most surfaces in your home. The disinfectant will attack germs in places like inside the toilet or on the kitchen counter. And the window cleaner is formulated to make sure that it doesn't leave streaks or deposits. You don't even need these products to be specialty label cleaners. Use vinegar (cuts through mineral deposits), baking soda (great for dissolving grease and oils), and dish soap (perfect for bathroom tiles or stained tubs). You’ll need few microfiber cloths, paper towels 🧻, as well as a scrub brush, a mop and a vacuum or 🧹. You may also need a duster (or you can improvise with a sock!). 🧦

Three basic rules for cleaning
Start with the kitchen and bathroom. They're the most important rooms to clean — and to clean properly. Make sure you clean all counter tops, the front of the fridge and cabinets and even trash cans. Go clockwise so you don't miss any surfaces or furniture.

Another rule of thumb is to go top to bottom. So, for example, in the bedroom, clean the light fixtures and the fan before stripping the beds.

Make sure to dry clean before you wet clean.

Finally, sweep or vacuum the rugs and floors and then mop.

Get into a routine
Getting into a routine helps make deep cleaning less intimidating. Set a schedule for daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks.

From Grimy to Gleaming !

How often do you clean your oven? If it is a rare and special occassion, you are not alone. Sadly, it's not enough.

Why?

Your oven can become less efficient at reaching temperatures and eventually may just stop working all together if burnt food is left unattended.
Crusty build up can also impact the taste of your food and, while high temperatures can kill some bacteria, it's not a good place to be cooking food.
Clean ovens retain heat better, and are more energy efficient. A clean oven is also much safer, as a buildup of grease and residue inside your oven can pose a fire risk. Dirty ovens can also contaminate your food with unpleasant and dangerous compounds.

How often?

How often you use your oven will impact how often you should clean it. For avid cooks and bakers who regularly rely on it, a general rule of thumb is to scrub it once every three months. If you rarely fire up your oven (say, just a couple times a month), cleaning it about once or twice a year should suffice.

We’re proud to offer oven cleaning in addition to our regular housecleaning services. We’ll go the extra mile to ensure that the entire interior is cleaned and rinsed using the proper materials. Let’s face it – your oven has been through a lot. While many models have self-cleaning options, they don’t provide a thorough clean.

You can request a quote for deep oven cleaning on its own, or as part of a one-off deep cleaning service. Contact us today! We will be happy to help!

“Hydrogen Peroxide Magic!”
I use magic because this stuff has so many uses that it does feel like a magic potion! Use a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide. This is probably the most commonly available type, and it’s the safest to use.

Cleaning Glass
Screw a spray bottle top right onto your bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and use it like you would use any glass cleaning product to clean glass and mirrors. It’s surprisingly effective, and streak-free!

Stain Remover
Treat stains from organic matter like blood, sweat, coffee, and wine. Spray hydrogen peroxide onto the stain and rub it in to help release the stain. This works best with fresh, wet stains. But it might bleach some dark fabrics. Test in an inconspicuous spot beforehand to make sure.

Bathroom Cleaner
Hydrogen peroxide makes an effective and affordable mold and mildew cleaner!

Whiten Fingernails
If you paint your nails a lot, you’ve probably already noticed that your nails can yellow over time. Get rid of the yellow tinge by applying a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide to each affected nail. Let them sit for a few minutes until the stains disappear. Make sure to apply a lotion or cuticle cream afterwards, since hydrogen peroxide can be rough on skin.

Cooler Cleaner
Pop a spray top on your bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and use it to clean and disinfect the inside of your coolers and ice chests.

Shopping Bag Saver
Use your spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide to clean your reusable shopping bags!

The Best & Worst Houseplants For Pet Parents, According To The ASPCA.

Some popular houseplants can be toxic to dogs and cats when ingested, according to the https://www.aspca.org/. While your four-legged friends should be fine smelling these indoor plants, when they get a little too curious and take a bite, it can have serious consequences.

Here's a list of plants that are certified pet-safe, and a list of greenery that dog and cat owners should avoid.

Plants that are safe for cats & dogs:

Let's start with the good news. The following houseplant varieties are all ASPCA-approved, and their mood-boosting, air-clearing benefits will be great for you and your furry friend.

• African Violet •Areca Palm •Bamboo
•Caeroba •Calathea •Friendship plant
•Haworthia •Most ferns (Bird's Nest Fern, Boston fern, Duffii Fern, Maidenhair fern, Moss fern) •Orchid •Prayer plant •Spider Plant
•Watermelon Begonia
•Watermelon Peperomia •Venus Fly Trap

Plants that are NOT safe for cats & dogs.

"For example, for a dog, chewing on sticks from a Japanese yew can be enough to cause heart problems and a cat drinking water from a vase with lilies in it can have kidney failure."

Here are a few more popular houseplant varieties that your pets shouldn't be getting too close to, according to the ASPCA's public database:

•Aloe •Bird of paradise •Dracaena •Fiddle-leaf figs •Peace lily •Philodendrons •Snake plants

Small trees native to Japan, and lilies, a popular bouquet flower, are especially dangerous to animals, so pet owners should definitely consider steering clear of them. For a dog, chewing on sticks from a Japanese yew can be enough to cause heart problems and a cat drinking water from a vase with lilies in it can have kidney failure.

If you have your heart set on any other plants from this list, you can still get them and just place them in areas that are harder to reach (hanging pots, anyone?). 🌵🎋Hanging houseplants is a fun way to draw the eye upwards and add more greenery to your space without taking up square footage.
