Busy morning in the shop! ☕🪵

Got an early start before the sun came up — and before heading to my day job! Spent some time cleaning the wavy cutting boards and getting the rough sanding done.

Then I stepped outside and was greeted by this beautiful sunrise! 🌅🐴

Some mornings remind you why you love living in the country.

Not a bad way to start the day! 😁

🪵 The Wavy Cutting Board Series Continues!

Well, sometimes the plan changes once you get into the shop! 😂

I had planned to make the walnut/maple wavy checkered board tonight, but then realized I needed TWO wavy boards to make that pattern. And one of those was dedicate to remain wavy. Oops!

So, a little change of plans! I used the cherry/maple boards to create the wavy checkered pattern and glued up the second walnut/maple wavy board so it’s ready for the next step.

Here are a couple of pictures from tonight’s progress!

🎥 I’ve also got a video coming soon showing the process of creating the wavy checkered pattern. It’s pretty cool watching it all come together!

And stay tuned! This weekend I’ll be sharing pictures of the finished, oiled cutting boards. Can’t wait to see that grain pop! 🔥

It’s still a work in progress but the creek and bridge work is underway. While this won’t eliminate the potential flooding, it should help with the erosion which got pretty bad during the historical summer rains we had in Perry County.

It’s still a work in progress but the bridge repairs and creek erosion work is finally underway. All that summer rain and flooding took a toll on our little creek. Nothing 100 tons of rock shouldn’t take care of!

🪵 Wavy Cutting Board Update: Making a Knot Disappear!

Sometimes it’s the little details that make all the difference!

This walnut board had a small knot with a void that needed some attention. Rather than leave it as is, I used a little sawdust and black CA glue to fill the imperfection and make it look like a natural, solid knot.

It’s a simple trick that can make a big difference in the finished piece!

We’re getting closer to seeing how these wavy cutting boards turn out. Stay tuned for the next step!

🚜 Another big project underway on the homestead!

After all the heavy rains and flooding we’ve had, our creek and bridge have taken a beating! The erosion has become a real concern, and it’s time to get it taken care of.

The contractors have been busy dealing with flood damage throughout the area, but we’re finally next on the list!

The plan? 100 tons of rock to stabilize the creek banks and protect the bridge, along with 6 cubic yards of concrete pumped under and around the bridge to fill some gaps and voids.

After all that is done, I’ll have 60 tons of gravel brought in to repair the driveway. Tyler and I will get to do that project. 😀🚜🚜

Not exactly the fun kind of homestead project, but definitely an important one! 💰😆

The equipment is here, and we’re getting started! Hopefully, this will help us stay ahead of Mother Nature the next time the creek decides to get a little wild!

Baby isn’t much of a baby anymore! She’s almost as big as her mama, Honey. ❤️🐴

They’re both doing great and enjoying life on the homestead!

Oops! Now let’s fix it! 😂🪵

Remember those little dings from my chisel mishap on the wavy cutting board?

Well, here’s how we’re fixing them! A little sawdust, some super glue, and a bit of sanding.

Woodworking doesn’t always go according to plan, but there’s usually a way to recover!

Well, that didn’t go quite as planned! 🤦‍♂️😂

Time to check the glue-up on our winning wavy cutting board design!

The good news? The board is coming together nicely!

The bad news? I learned a valuable lesson about using a chisel to separate boards. OOPS! 😬

Just another day in the woodshop. Sometimes the lessons are learned the hard way!

🪵 Making Waves… and Running Into a Few Challenges! 🌊

Time to glue up one of our winning wavy cutting board designs!

What looked great during the dry fit turned out to be a little more challenging when it came time for glue and clamps. Those diagonal wavy cuts made getting even clamping pressure a lot trickier than expected! 😅

After a little head-scratching and some experimenting, strap clamps came to the rescue!

Definitely an unforeseen challenge, but I think we got it! 🤞

This video takes you through the glue-up process, from applying the glue to getting everything clamped together.

Next up, we’ll see how it all turned out once the clamps come off!
