It's been a while, but I'm back with some notan sketches for an upcoming painting that I'm working on. There was a time where I thought good art could be made without careful design. Not for me, at least. Doing sketches where I figure out the darks and lights and the armature or design of the shapes and how that affects how we see it...pretty essential. And I have fun doing it.

Another Christmas gift masquerading as an oil painting. I had to ship this one and thankfully it arrived via USPS safely.

From notan sketch to underpainting (forgot to snap a pic of that) to final product.

I will be writing a blog post on the making of this one soon, but thought I'd share this. I do like the extreme temperature in the colors, and will probably find inspiration that is similar in the future.
