Sending our Chloe off. 🤍

First joining us as a high school intern, then returning after graduation as our studio assistant. The organizing, the follow-through, the “actually, that’s due Thursday” - and everything you see on this grid are all thanks to her.

She has kept us in check, was always in for a laugh, and made every photoshoot this summer more fun (and considerably more organized).

The office is going to feel very quiet without her in it. Now she’s off to North Eastern, starting with a semester in Greece!

We asked her a few things before she goes - her answers are in the swipe.

Thank you for every detail you caught, Chloe. Your contributions are immeasurable and we will miss you and your seemingly effortless technology know-how. Go have the whole adventure, and don’t study too hard. 😉🇬🇷 we will see you in Dec 🤍

Lakeside Lodge ⛵️

The cottage came first. This is the house behind it — ours from the first set of drawings to the last light switch.

Interior elevations, lighting and power plans, the stair, the stone, the wallpaper, the furniture. Years of decisions pointed at one idea: a house that opens to the water and knows exactly what it wants to be.

Attic Retreat, revealed. 🤍

An unused attic in Newburyport — and one we’ve been living inside of for a long time.

A red door at the top of the stairs. Custom built-ins that read like they were always there. Lighting chosen corner by corner instead of all at once. And seating tucked into every alcove the roofline gave us — a window seat under the dormer, a bench beside the desk, a spot to sit in corners that were dead space a year ago.

Every material had to earn its place. The ones that made it are the ones you don’t notice first — you just feel them.

The golden rule: put your money into what’s permanent and hard to change later.

Cabinetry, countertops, and flooring are the bones of the room. They set the tone, take the most daily use, and cost the most to redo. That’s where your budget belongs.

Then pull back on the accessories. Fixtures and hardware are the jewelry — they read expensive for a fraction of the cost, and they’re easy to swap when you’re ready for something new.

The part most people don’t expect: hiring a designer is often what keeps a budget intact, not what strains it. Getting the sequence and the spend right from the start is far cheaper than correcting it halfway through.
