Another Frank Lloyd Wright house for sale! It's only 1.9 million, but includes all furniture and art!

Take a look, it's an architectural marvel!!

The upward-tilting roof of this house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright “scoops the light off the lake,” said Gina Flamm, who since 1996 has owned the home on a Lake Michigan bluff in St. Joseph with her husband, Arthur Wolak. The house on Old Lakeshore Road is from late in Wright’...

Remodeling has been booming in this year of covid!

3 months into a kitchen remodel and things are looking great! There are still some minor things that need to be complete at this point, but it's getting done. I will have some before and after photos done with a proper camera to show the progress of a kitchen remodel, and also the stress and inconvenience involved in such an endeavor. The cabinets are original maple wood ones and the footprint is still the same. I had the cabinets professionally painted, some in white and some in grey for some interest and contrast. I put in 3 sections of glass cabinets to make the room feel lighter and brighter. I had a pantry built for more storage and I moved the sink from the corner to the section that used to be an eat-in bar. We are too short for bars, so I had it taken out! For the installation of the custom pantry, a wall had to be constructed to support it ( see photo in comments). The sink now looks out toward the garden and makes kitchen chores much more pleasant! I made an concept board before commencing on the project, which is typical in the design process. There was, as in any project, a few glitches, but we are currently working them out. We are very happy with the results and knowing it will add value to our property in the long run is a plus.

Ben Moore's Color of the Year!

Aegean Teal-2136-40

Love it! I used a teal on my porch in Maine and paired it with a gorgeous coral. It was a lovely combination! I absolutely love how soft and lively this palette is and I hope I get to work with them this year! While I'm not a trend follower, I think they have a classic appeal and will be pleasing for years to come.

"The color trends of 2021 exhibit a freshness and upbeat sensibility, while also demonstrating the ability to serve multiple functions or roles within the home to complement any living arrangement, design aesthetic, and appeal to all generations.

The colors can shine on their own or come together to create uniquely modern harmonies."

We used to rent the 3rd floor of this majestic Second Empire house in Philadelphia when we were poor college students. I LOVED the building and the property and felt a deep sense of history associated with this house. I knew it had an illustrious past and always admire the beautiful elements of design and the gorgeous materials and craftsmanship used to construct it. This house never left my memory and I sometimes google it to see what it's up to.

Today, I found this

NOMINATION OF HISTORIC BUILDING, STRUCTURE, SITE, OR OBJECT

PHILADELPHIA REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES

PHILADELPHIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION for this property to have it recognized as an historic building based on the history of it during the growth and mill development of the Manayunk section along the Schuylkill River. It was an interesting read! 🥰

Humans have the innate need to create a comfortable, safe, warm and happy home for our families and friends to thrive in. We pick items we love, colors that bring us joy, we light fireplaces and candles for a primitive sense of warmth, and we make food for health and celebration. Our space can reveal a lot about its occupants in so many ways. We pick up subtle clues in every environment we go into, be it a house, a hotel, a restaurant or even outside. We've all been in neglected, sad hotels or restaurants and just felt off in our experience being in it. We've spent time in wonderful, well-kept and well-loved places, and felt uplifted and comfortable. It's many tiny variables that contribute to the clues we pick up on, such as natural light, the colors around, items picked to display, candles, firelight, smells, and food presented can lend to our experiences in that space. In the homes of our friends and family, while those variables factor in, it's the relationship to the people that are dominant in our experience in that space. Happy Decorating!! DK.

New Project: Window Treatments for Eat -in- Kitchen and Master Bedroom.

For the Eat in Kitchen, I'd like to keep the connection to the outside and the interior, to see the garden and allow the natural light to come in, yet have privacy during the evenings.

The Kitchen eat in area has a Craftsman/Cottage like feel to the windows, so putting anything heavy on them would be counter productive. I'm opting for natural fiber shades. They don't overwhelm the windows or the space and allow for keeping the windows open during the daytime to allow the light in.

Currently, there are white cone shades on the windows, and while they are kept open during the day, at night they look like dirty, dusty while squares of.....nothing. I have not been satisfied with that look at all. Any type of fabric, ie drapes, cafe curtains, or wooden blinds or shutters would not be appropriate to this situation. It makes sense to go with natural fiber shades.

I looked at a variety of samples of woven wood shades and was happy that they are created from natural, eco-friendly materials such as rattan reeds, jute, natural woods, and a variety of grasses. The idea of them connecting the room with the outdoors was my objective.

I narrowed it down to three choices and I'm leaning toward the one on the right with a light liner so that they allow the light in, but provide privacy at night. The one in the middle is very elegant and rich and may keep them for the Living room down the line. The final concept photo is an idea of what they will ultimately look like ( no drapes tho).

The Master bedroom ideas are still in process. Currently I have shutters on them, and even though they are nice, I feel disconnected to the view outside. I'm thinking of woven shades with a soft drape. Pics to come.

I love beautiful vignettes! A simple arrangement meant to please the eyes and senses. An empty table top becomes a work of art with a vase of fresh flowers and a candle. A routine dinner become something more special, romantic maybe. It creates an atmosphere of intimacy and homeyness. That's why restaurants put a candle and a flower vase on the table. It makes the space yours while you are dining there. Maybe it harkens back to our caveman days when sitting around a fire meant safely, and of course, food on the table from a successful hunt. I love created vignettes around my home and change them up with the seasons. When I'm walking. around my house and turn a corner, my eyes rest on something beautiful and makes me feel good! Try it in your own home! Find things out in nature, around the house, or in the garden and put together something that pleases your eye and your soul.
