Difference between Interior Design and Interior Decorating
The term interior design (and by extension, interior designer) is different from interior decorating (and likewise, interior decorator), although some use these terms interchangeably. An interior decorator applies decorating principles to beautify a space. Although an "interior designer" can also make aesthetic changes to an interior space, the interior designer is a professional licensed and/or registered with a licensing authority who coordinates design projects with a holistic approach in spatial design. Education requirements are less technical for an interior decorator than for an interior designer. While an interior decorator requires no formal mandated education or licensing requirements, an interior designer should meet both education and licensing requirements of the jurisdictions in which they practice, and the designer must be well versed and knowledgeable technically in the building and safety codes that can affect changes to interior spaces. Most state and provincial licensing boards require passage of the NCIDQ Examination for licensure or registration.

Happy 20th anniversary to Lang Studio Design! Throwback to this picture from a home tour I attended in Palm Springs in 2020. 🥰 Felt cute then😍

The journey getting to where I am today hasn’t been easy but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. In the beginning of my design career I had a good run until the recession, and in order to survive I did what I needed to do to stick with the creative field. I started wedding planning in 2008 and most people who knew me from the wedding industry didn’t even know about my design side. I worked for architecture and design firms but I’ve always had my own side projects, big or small. The last 15 years I’ve been working freelance for design firms while I run my wedding planning and interior design businesses. A few years ago I officially retired from wedding planning so it’s been nice to have the weekends off 😁

The beginning of this year I started a new chapter in my career right before my 50th birthday. I now work for a construction company but I also have the flexibility to take on some projects. I may have a full-time job but I still need to satisfy my desire to design! 🥰 Speaking of projects, I’m currently working on a bathroom remodel and today I sent out 2 proposals, one of them is in Palm Springs! I’m wrapping up one I started last year and the builder just asked if I can take on another one in a few months. What a great way to celebrate my 20th year! Grateful for these opportunities and for clients who value what I do 🥰

Here’s to another 20 more years of creative adventures for me! 💜🙌

Last week I got to attend a 2 day workshop by Schluter and boy was it an awesome experience for me. I was expecting to learn more about their systems but the hands on workshop was an experience I’ll never forget. As a designer I’ve only scratched the surface on what I know about their products. I’ve only specified their metal trims and drains so that’s about it. Learning about their innovative shower systems in addition to all the physics behind tile installation was enlightening. 🤓

I felt like I was back in college again with hours of lecture. The workshop took place at the hotel we stayed at so we never got a chance to leave the hotel until the evening. I didn’t get to drink matcha for 2 days, the matcha withdrawal is real 🤪 So for you coffee drinkers, I feel you 😆

We started each day in a classroom for a few hours before learning how to install their shower system like water proofing it before tile and drain installation.

I met some new friends there and found a new designer buddy who loves to learn and get hands on experience like me. My first time using a hand trowel and working with thin set. I did pretty well but let’s face it I’m staying in my lane and won’t be quitting my day job. 😆 Now with my new found knowledge and experience I appreciate tile installation and this industry even more.

Thank you again to my sweet friend and rep Mary for inviting me. This was my first workshop and won’t be the last! Thank you to the Schluter crew for a fun and educational experience! You all made it so fun! Who knew I would be geeking out on shower and tile installation! Thank you Schluter for the accommodations and for keeping us well fed the whole time. See you at the next workshop! 🙌

P.S. Shout out to this beautiful hotel I stayed at. I fell in love with it as soon as I stepped into the lobby. I especially love the staircase 😍 Manifesting a hotel project one day 🥰

Happy first day of June! Can’t believe we are almost halfway thru 2026! Life’s been nonstop! There’s just not enough time to catch my breath lately but I have some exciting news to share!

It’s been 5 months since I started my new job at Hawker Construction and I’m settling into my role well. My bosses and team are amazing and my schedule is so flexible. Now I can finally focus back on my own company again. I may not be taking on a lot of projects at the moment but I am not retired as a designer. I still want to have an office to meet clients whenever I need to. 🤓

I’ve always loved Costa Mesa and even dream of living there one day so why not start with an office! May I present to you my new office! This is my new coworking space where you’ll see me frequent at least once or twice a week. 🤓 I’ve toured a few locations and this is the most convenient for me and I love being in that area 🥰

So much has happened since last August right before my big surgery. I’m fully recovered and ready to take on the world full speed!

Looking forward to taking my career to the next level. I mean the view from the 6th floor is a good way to start the day for sure 😍 Good Vibes only 🙌

{5.6.26} HD Expo Day 2

Started my day attending a roundtable session with the owner’s reps. Got to meet some new friends and learned so much about the various hotels and their operations 🤓

Afterwards I went to check out a few more booths and had some Iconic moments at the booth. 🥰

The highlight of day 2 was my design besties Julie and Mimi flying in for the day. We haven’t been here together in so long so we packed in as much inspiration and shenanigans as we could. 🥰

As soon as they arrived we had lunch before hitting the show floors. We had so much fun in such a short time. It was worth it for them to come even if it’s just for a day. 🥰

We ended the day at Border Grill for an early dinner before I drove them to the airport. Thanks so much for making the time to come girls! Hopefully you’ll be able to stay longer next time! 🥰

{5.5.26} HD Expo 2026 Day 1!

Started the day bumping into my friend Priya 😍 3rd time bumping into her right when I pick up my badge! So good catching up with you for a bit before we parted ways. 🥰

I went to visit some of my reps I’m close to first before exploring the rest of the show. I didn’t walk as much as I did in years past cus I had too much fun hanging out at some of the booths with my reps. 🥰

Towards the end of the day I met up with my friend Cindy while we both were testing out the massage chairs. We ended up grabbing a quick bite together cus we both didn’t eat lunch! We met once at a event last year and have been keeping in touch ever since so it’s our first time hanging out like this. 🥰

I ended day 1 hanging out with my MDC reps and some of their designer friends for happy hour followed by a delish feast! We were stuffed! Thank you so much again for the invite 🥰

A few months ago we shared a few sneak peeks from this project at the beauty college. Happy to finally share these photos of the completed space.

The conference room located in the back with sliding glass doors offers a semi private space for meetings or just a quiet place to work. The front area is an open concept lunch and lounge space for the staff to enjoy. 🥰

It was definitely a design challenge with such a narrow space but we made it work for them to use the space in the most efficient way possible. This is what form and function is all about when it comes to our design philosophy. 😍🤓

Fun facts: The framed photography we used as artwork are actual work from former graduates. What a great way to showcase their work for these beauty college students. 🤩💅💇🏻‍♀️💋

Modernism Week

Every year for my birthday I would take a trip to Palm Springs for Modernism Week cus it always around my birthday. If you’re new here you should know that I’m a huge fan of mid century modern. 🤓

So glad my design bestie Belinda got to join me again this year so we decided to do a self guided tour and did a lil road trip there.

We toured a total of 6 homes in the Sunmor Estates neighborhood so I’ll be posting about each home separately. Stay tuned. 😍 Fun facts, these homes were built between 1955 to 1960 and one of the architects during that time was Wexler & Harrison. One of my fave architects. I’ve toured quite a few Wexler’s homes throughout the years during Modernism Week. 🤓

Here are some highlights from that fun-filled day. This year is all about the classic cars as you can see. 🤩

Had a wonderful morning with my designer friends at a lunch and learn with Moya Living and Aranelli at North End Design.

We got to tour their stunning showroom after a presentation to learn more about their products and services. It was great to learn the history of Moya Living and how they got started.

After lunch we got to explore the showroom and geek out over all the cool features. These photos don’t even do it justice. I highly recommend you come in to see their beautiful showroom for yourself. Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable.

New year, reimagined space. Starting the new year with better design. 🥰

A little refresh project for the women’s restroom at the beauty college. This was done during the holiday break when the school is closed. The staff and students came back to this fresh new space! 😍

Full remodel will be done at another time. For now a fresh coat of paint to brighten up the space to start. The wow factor is the sink area with beautiful backsplash tiles in warm and cool tones and a brand new floating vanity. 😍 Now this space is functional and gorgeous 😁

Last 2 photos are from before. It used to be very dark and cave-like. Love the fresh and bright new look! 🤩
