What stopped me in my tracks at 3 Days of Design?

Lighting.
Again.

Not the oversized chandeliers or highly engineered fixtures.

The tactile ones.

Linen. Rice paper. Natural fibers. Sculptural forms. Soft, diffused light.

As I’ve wandered through Copenhagen, I’ve been inspired by architecture, craftsmanship, furniture, and materials. Yet I kept finding myself drawn to the same thing: lighting that feels as beautiful when it’s off as it does when it’s illuminated.

Perhaps it’s my Swedish roots.
Perhaps it’s the Hygge.

Either way, it seems I have a type.

There is something about standing in front of a piece like this that stops you completely.

The Swedes call them trasmattor: humble rag rugs, woven on hand looms from natural wool, passed through farmhouses for centuries. Every Swedish grandmother had one. Never precious. Just life.

What I found this week in Copenhagen is what happens when that tradition is taken completely seriously, and the design ambition is fully unleashed.

This is not a rag rug. This is a painting in wool. Owls in a forest. Creatures you find only when you look closely. The kind of thing you live with for a lifetime.

My Swedish roots recognize this. My designer brain is completely undone.

The kitchen truly is the heart of the home and this one: she has a soul.

That sweeping stone backsplash stops us every single time. The movement, the depth, the way it grounds the rich walnut cabinetry and warm earthy tones. It's the kind of detail that makes a kitchen feel like more than just a place to cook. It feels like a place to gather.

Sometimes European makers understand what we are still catching up to.

Stone doesn’t stop at the countertop. It becomes the sink. It wraps the edge.
The corner radius isn’t an afterthought, it’s the entire decision.
Every curve is intentional.

1744. Marblehead Old Town. We had work to do.

This dining room had everything a cottage should: hardwood floors, French doors, nearly 300 years of character. It also had dark wood built-ins, a louvered closet door, and a brass floral chandelier that had overstayed its welcome.

Slide 4 is where the story starts to change. The tile, the fabrics, the hardware: every decision made together before a single cabinet was ordered. That’s what full-service looks like in the middle.

Rift cut white oak cabinetry. A full-wall geometric tile installation. Stone countertops. Leather pulls. Rattan an is chairs. A palette that finally belongs in this house.

The tile isn’t even grouted yet and we’re already obsessed.
